Question about BMW 7 Series

1 Answer

My 740IL BMW (1998) started squealing. Most of the time it doesn't start squealing until the car warms up a couple of miles down the road. It is a high pitch sound and a scraping sound. When I slow down it sounds louder. When I step on the brake all the way it stops. No sound when I am idling. As soon as I press the gas peddle it starts back up again. Any thoughts what to look for?

Have you looked at your belt? That could be a big squeaker. Hope this helps. James Booth :)

Someone looked quick at it this morning and said my a/c belt is dry and frayed, so I should get a new one but the alternator belt was fine. Would that belt due it. If it was a belt, why wouldn't it make any noise when my car is idling. Once I put the brake on, it stops.

B/C when you brake, your motor slows down. Which means your belt will spin slower. And wont squeal at all, or as loud. But when you gas on it, the belt immediately has to stay moving just as fast as the motor does. If it's dry and defrayed, It will slip. ( causing it to squeal ) So it seems as if you need a new belt. Hope this helps, James Booth. PLEASE RATE THIS! :)

The A/C belt would do it even though my a/c is not on. Sorry. I'm not sure how everything works but I'm sick of bringing it in to the garage and them not fixing the problem. Thought if I had a good idea of what it could be, I would make suggestions. LOL!

You need to replace the belt.
Once a belt gets glazed it will slip no matter how tight it is.

1998 Chevrolet C3500 dies randomly when driving down the road - uphill, downhill or flat surfaces. Typically doesn't happen when it's cold. Sometimes it starts back up and sometimes it doesn&#

my younger brothers' truck did the same thing and there was a relay up under the dashboard that would get hot and shut of(kind of a circuit breaker unit) most of the operating systems will flash at you when only battery voltage is available which explains the lights coming on..these newer trucks also have a performance chip in the system that will act up when it gets warm also..replace this and you may be ok..let me know what happens also.. good luck.

1998 ford explorer oil pressure

Knocking in engine and low oil pressure usually means bad main bearings. May have been caused by bad oil pump or just worn out bearings due to high mileage. If this is problem needs engine or rebuild old engine.

When my 1998 plymouth grand voyager runs a long time the transmission starts to have a hard time shifting or not shifting at all until it cools down.

How many miles? I'm guessing 150k atleast. A complete transmission flush/pan filter is probably your only option. Other than that, it is mechanical and needs to be rebuilt or the torque converter replaced, etc. Basically, if the flush/pan filter doesn't work, you probably need a new vehicle.

MY 2000 BMW 318I SE IS NOT ACCELERATING PROPERLY WHEN STARTING FROM COLD I PUT MY FOOT DOWN BUT THE CAR JUST JUDDERS ALONG IF I STOP AND REV THE ENGINE PAST 5000 IT THEN SEEMS OK AFTER ALSO THE EMISSION...

There isn't a car out there that likes to be put in drive as soon as it is started. Mine especialy. I give it at least 30 seconds to warm while I am adjusting evrything and away I go. Runs like a champ. Let it warm up for a couple of minutes from a cold start.

check battery cables.make sure they are not loose are or corroded.if battery cables okay.problem could be faulty starter - electronic immobilizer control - ignition switch + check its fuse first.if you disconnect battery cables besure to turn off radio so you wont lose code.

1998 bmw 740il will not start even with new a battery

If you checked all the fuses try putting the car in neutral sometimes the shifter gets misadjusted and wont start till the car is completely in park.If not check for a lose wire to the starter. If the car has an after market alarm you will have to turn it off before starting there should be a little buuton under the drivers dash or kick panel.GOOD LUCK
