Question about Chevrolet Colorado

1 Answer

When my Cheverlote Colorado 2005 is started the wipers come on and go two times and then stop. Sometimes they stop in the middle of the windshield. And then when you need to use the wipers they only work on high. I took it to the dealer and they said it was an internal short and needed to replace the wiper module. Where is the wiper module located on this truck?

There is a black cover on the wiper motor. Its called the wiper cover and/or wiper pulse module. This is the circuit board for the wipers. This is usually the failed component when wipers only work on high or wont shut off, etc...

Replace this part, should take care of your concern; simple to replace. Check this Wiper Motor - Removal & Installation

  1. Place the wiper arms in the 1/2 wipe position.
  2. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  3. Remove the wiper arms.
  4. Remove the air inlet grille panel.
  5. Remove the wiper transmission .
  6. Using the Wiper Linkage Separator J 39232 , separate the transmission link from the wiper motor crank arm ball stud.
  7. Remove the fasteners from the wiper motor to the frame assembly.
  8. Remove the wiper motor.
To install:

NOTE Lubricate the socket with Multi-Purpose Lubricant, Superlube, GM P/N 12346241 (Canadian P/N 10953474) or equivalent.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure.
  2. Tighten the wiper motor mounting bolts to 81 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
  3. Install the transmission drive link socket onto the crank arm ball of the wiper motor using the Wiper Linkage Installer J 39529 .
I can't locate one for this model online, must be a Dealer Item only. Hope this helps.

When I turn off my windshield wipers they stop in the middle of the windshield. Why?

There is a tab that bends and sometimes brakes. When you shut off the wipers the wiper motor reverses and is supposed to catch a tab to park the wipers. If the tab misses the catch they stop in the up position.

The intermittent function for the wipers has a variable resistor that controls the timing of the wipers in this mode. Replacement of the wiper switch will resolve this issue. Over time they do become worn, and do not make contact during the entire wiper cycle.

2006 kia wipper works but stops in the middle of the windshield

It sounds like the the circuit board has gone bad and does not know where the base is any more so it will stop at the middle or the windshield. Auto Zone should have a new board if it's replaceable like the GM products. Good luck and hope this helps, In the mean time you can always turn your wipers on and pull the fuse out when it's at the down position so it's not up.

Windshield wipers stuck upright when off

This is a commoon problem with what is called the "Park pawl stop". The tab is most likely bent and needs to be re-aligned, then the wipers need to be re-timed. This re-timing can be a little difficult, although the re-aligning of the tab is failry simple.
