The battery wont help. when you cleaned the maf, did you check the filter. Dirty filters will cause a shut down at a stop. And the longer you let them go it will start shutting down when you release the gas pedal. You should also clean the inside of the throttle body, use a small brush and clean as far as you can, to include the back of the plate. On some cars I even pulled the idle air control motor and cleaned it up and the hole it goes in.

No, As long as you're vehicle starts and runs fine with some options being ran off of the battery, you're battery is not the issue, It sounds like a vaccum leak or a fuel delivery issue. Run Some Premium gas in it with fuel system treatment "Cleaner" and see if in a couple of days it gets better. If not you most likely have a vaccum leak, listen for a hissing noise under the hood of you're vehicle while it is running, if you hear a hissing noise than liik for little black hoses that will have a hole, tear or that have just come apart from where they are suppost to be.

    Car dies without warning

The symptoms you describe are similar to what I experienced on a 1994 Fiat 900cc. Sometimes it would just die and immediately restart, just to die again. Other times it would surge, almost like a misfire. There were no dashboard lights or error codes.

I disconnected the electrical wire on the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) and the car ran pretty ok... so I then replaced the MAF.

Try cleaning your mass airflow sensor to see if that makes any difference. You'll probably find a video on Youtube.

When you cleaned your maf sensor did you disconnect your negative battery cable. If you cleaned the maf senor without disconnecting the battery cable there is a chance that you shorted out the sensor. Try unplugging the sensor and see if the truck runs any different. If it does not run any different with the maf sensor unplugged then you will know you found your problem. I hope this helps you out, and good luck

I recently had problems with my 2005 Mazda MPV stalling. I came to this great site and changed the IAC and it stopped stalling. But 2 days later my check engine light came on. The codes are P2197 P2195...

The descriptions for your codes are:
    P2197 - H02S (RF) signal stuck lean
    P2195 - H02S (RF) signal stuck lean
P2187 - Fuel System too lean at idle
P0102 - MAF circuit low input

Essentially what's happening is that your MPV is running too lean when at idle. Too much air and not enough fuel. As you speed up - it forces more air into the system which alleviates the problem.

Examine your mass airflow sensor. It should be completely clean - no fuzzies on it at all. If so - purchase some mass airflow sensor cleaner to clean the sensor. ONLY USE THE PROPER CLEANER TO AVOID DAMAGING THE SENSOR. Disconnect the battery to reset the system and turn off check engine light.

Otherwise you will need a scan tool to look at the voltages being supplied to/from the PCM for each of the Heated Oxygen Sensors and the Mass Airflow Sensor to determine which part is creating the problem.

Anytime you make a change to any part of the emissions system, its best to disconnect the
battery for a few minutes. If you don't, the computer retains the fault code and it will usually keep
coming back. When all power is lost to the computer, it will do a complete scan when reconnected
and engine started. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and see what happens.

Car shakes while backing up and when stopped and sometimes goes dead

Just had a very similar thing happen. 2002 Ford Taurus. Car was shuddering at idle, more pronounced when backing up. The car would periodically not start at all. Didn't die when running though. The battery terminals/wires were not making good contact. Had to re seat those and needed to clean the Mass Airflow sensor. Runs like a top now.
