I have no power steering on a 93 nissan maxima with a 3.0 v6. fluid is full and didn't appear to be cycling. i pulled out the power steering pump, opened it up and didn't see and obviose damage. pully and belt is in good shape. wondering if there's something i should be looking for inside the pump and if it could be the rack and pinion.

Sounds like the pump is bad. buying a used one for that model shouldnt be a very expensive proposition and seems to be the best next step. The rack would leak if it was bad and unless you poured super glue into it instead of fluid it really wouldnt be the problem. Good luck.

If it whines when you turn the wheel than it is the pump, If it DOESENT whine than it is definately the rack.

Is it ok to use Dexron VI ATF as power steering fluid?

No I do not recommend that, use the factory Nissan fluid from the dealer parts dept. It cost more but the system will last longer and perfrom better.

My Nissan Maxima 2001 steering is whining when I turn. What is going on? Do I need new fluid, or do I need to worry about the steering pump? Any help is appreciated... jfsivory

If your fluid is full and it just started doing this, then I would get it checked right away. Yes most likely it is your steering pump going out. Sorry to say, but that is first signs, unless you are low on fluid. Thanks mike

Power steering fluid ? where do i put it in my car and what kind do i use for my 1993 nissan maxima

should be on the passenger side front corner next to the coolant reservoir and behind the washer fluid. and it takes regular power steering fluid.

I have a nissan altima and the steering wheel wont turn even though the fluid is full.

If it has a belt on the power steering pump (check) the pulley in front of the pump, then it going to be the power steering pump it self.

I have a nissan maxima 2001 3.0 v6 in winter or cold time when the car is to cold the wheel gets to hard to turn and it makes a noise like something is stooping it many times. after the car gets warm...

Try flushing the Power Steering Fluid, with the correct new fluid for your type system. Check with the dealer for tech service bulletins and possible additives. If that doesn't help you probably have a worn out steering rack. I would bet on the worn rack.
