This sounds like one of two issues, either the shift sensor on the transmission is bad, or you got a blocked fuel filter. The most common cause for this is the fuel filter being clogged

Why wont my 97 plymouth grand voyager shift into fourth gear at 40 mph?

Sticking valves. When is the last time you had the transmission serviced? Since it will shift when cold, I would suspect a valve body issue.

My Geo Metro 1992 automatic 3.1 does not want to shift from first when cold. After driving a few blocks (in first gear), it shifts normally - down at 20 and into overdrive at 40- and keeps on workin

If it (doesn't) slip & works just fine

I would change the fluid & be sure to use
the correct fluid

I would add one 10 oz bottle of RED LUBGARD
to it,nothing else,no other brand or additive

May just be the cold temp shrinks the valve body,
until warmed up

40 mph to OD, light on the gas, is correct, more gas later
into OD

Check fuel pressure, the fuel pressure should be about 49psi ( + or - 5 psi).

1995 cadilac deville has problem shifting from 1 to 2 gear

You don't have torque converter shudder. You don't even mention that in your original post! You def had a solenoid issue. My 94 STS did the same thing. I only had reverse, 1st and 2nd gear. Wouldn't shift outa 2nd period. It was a $200 solenoid repair. Car had a 160K on it when that happened. I have almost 170k on it now. Shifts and works fine. you don't need the tranny replaces ad josavv63 indicates.
