I have 2000 jl Volkswagen jetta and it starts up but soon after it's started it immediately dies down. during the brief period it runs, white smoke coming from the tailpipe. the oil level on the dipstick is about a half inch above the full marking . the car did stall once the day before. what could the problem be??

White smoke means that coolant gets into engine's combustion chamber.
Probably because of overheating and damaged gasket. Anyway disassembly
and inspection needed.

Truly a ridiculous amount of electronics in this vehicle. Lots of fuses and modules for radiator cooling, but no relay. That means it is a function of the ECM and the 'modules'.

I don't really know about your car my 2004 neon did same it was the transfer sensor it's on side of the motor driver side right below valve cover it a small black box with four bolts 10mm it was 28 buck for lifetime replacement part I hope this helps but codes will tell you everything
