Question about Volkswagen Microbus

I have overheating problem with my VW combi 2,5 i . Red warning light comes on . Replaced the reservoir and two pointed switch on top. Fan operating correct. The red light comes on before the temperature needle indicates high temperature. 1996 model. waterpipes are feel very warm.

Hi,it can be losts of things ex.waterpump,airlock in system,watercap leaking,leak,thermostat so its best to get it to a garage to be presure tested.hope u come rite

Engine overheating warning sign flashes up


Have you checked it since you added water? If it is still warning that it's overheating--and you know for sure that it is NOT--it's probably the thermostat--very cheap to replace.

I have a 96 Jetta GL and I just replaced the thermostat in it because I have no hot air coming out of the vents and now my car is running hot. What is the problem and how could I fix it?

I have 1999 VW Beetle 2.0 have change all cooling fan parts all new relays sensors fans control modules and the temperature dash light keeps showing hot what could it be thats going wrong


connection to radiator fan switch could be bad.

If I take out the connector from the fan switch (thermo switch/fan control switch) that light acts just as you described.
So check the fuse box on top of the battery, take out the fuses and make sure nothing is melted. Now check if you are getting power to the switch connector. red wire is hot wire, 2 striped wires can be used as ground. Make use you get around 12 volts, not mV.

if you got no power there then try checking continuity in the wiring... you need power there to make thing work :D

Vw polo 02' 1.4 16v overheating my vw polo is overheating... its gets to 115 degrees celcius and the thermo fan does not operate. the fan works because ive put direct power to it. ive replaced the thermo...


I'm not familiar with that model, but the problem could be the temp sensor or relay. The pcm should read the sensor and turn on the relay when the temp exceeds normal. You can proble the relay socket to see if the pcm is trying to turn the relay on. See tips at link below.

Yes, the fan switch only operates the relay.
Look for the following image:

I have to ask if the switch is the right one or installed correctly?
If there are 2 fans, I would assume there would either be 2 switches, or at least 2 wires to the switch (3 would also be possible).
The thing to do is test the switch by bypassing it with a shunt to ground.
In fact, it is also possible the switch ground is what is bad.
The fan should come on when switch is shunted, I believe even with ignition off.
So be careful.

How do i reset the change brake pads warning


Are you referring to the red "BRAKE" light on the dash? If so, that light illuminates when the level in the brake fluid reservoir gets below a certain point. Once the pads are replaced and the fluid pushed back in the reservoir the light will go out on it's own.

Check for power and ground to left (large) radiator fan with test light. If power and ground to connector are ok, replace faulty fan.

Overheating problem


water pump. water pump. water pump. i am a vw dealer tech and on 2.0 and 1.8t beetles the water pump impeller is plastic, and what happens is usually another component, fans, fan control module (under battery tray), thermostat, fails and because the impeller is plastic with just one overheat the plastic becomes brittle and shatters, pull the water pump out and you will see the impeller in 3 or 4 pieces. replace water pump and make sure t stat opens, fans come on (a/c off) and proper water pump flow.
