There is a sway bar that connects to the lower cotrol arms. It has 2 bushings that hold it to the frame and 2 links that connects it to the control arms. The bar goes all the way across the front of the truck. If you see light threw the bushings replace them. Replace the sway bar links, I can bet you these are already broke.

2005 Sierra ignition key will not turn

Your title is confusing between the 2 model years listed, but here's what I can suggest. Either way it sounds like a worn out ignition key cylinder that is just worn out. However, the '97 pickups have the steering wheel lock feature when the key is in the off position. You might want to try moving the steering wheel side to side and see if it is bound up on the locking mechanism. If it's a 2005 truck, that isn't the case and it is most likely a bad key cylinder

I have a 2000 gmc jimmy 4x4 . i have rebuilt the front end with all new parts ,but i think i have a steering box issue now . you can jack each side up and check for play and there is very little play on...

I would look for where the box bolts to the chassis, there is a possibility that the chassis is cracked. I believe there are three bolts that hold the box on and have seen chassis crack there. Good luck and let me know.

Are my tires causing my car to swerve and follow the cracks?

Usually caused by unusually wide tyres/wheels. This is called in the UK 'tramlining' and is nothing to worry about though can be disconcerting. Owing to the increased width of Z3 spec. tyres over standard tyres there is more of a tendency to follow abrupt changes in the road surface. Keep those hands at 'Ten to Two' on the steering wheel.

No, the problem is not yet overcome, but it appears as if this fixer-uper has been fixed up before with steering parts that are not compatible with '98 Jimmy's. I've left it in the hands of a local GM geru who claims to be able to fix it. I'll keep the email and keep you posted.
