Question about 1999 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

I have a 1999 pontiac bonniville and when i turn the key on there isnt any power to auto headlights dashlights radio all usually would come on just by turning the key forward. well a week ago the car stalled out we unplugged the mass air flow sensor and it started so we replaced that and it ran great for a day or more. then all at once it lost everything wont even turn over. we checked fuses, charged battery. cleaned terminals, even tried turning it over by jumping the starter with the key on, but got nothing it wouldnt even fire. we came to the conclusion it is the key or ignition. if you could let me know what you think it could be or if i should check anything else out please let me know what it is and where it is located it would be very appreciated. thanks,

On a 2000 pontiac grand am gt, headlights, radio and dashlights stay on after key is out of ignition. I tapped on fuse box under the hood and lights turned off. Happens again as soon as you turn key back...

A relay in that fuse box is sticking closed. Next time take the cover of the fuse box off and by the label inside it, try to identify the headlight relay. Tap that one or each relay in turn to identify the faulty one.

Remove and install an ignition on a 1999 pontiac bonniville

Are you talking about the ignition switch or the key cylinder? The ignition switch is on the steering column under the dash. Changing the key cylinder requires the removal of the steering wheel.

Radio won't shut off on 2007 pontiac g6

Check wiring and see if power source is to wrong lead, usually the constant power wire would be wired to the clock or auto antenna. The poer source for turning the radio on should be wired to the power source that is tied to the ignition, so when you turn your key off the power will be off as well.

2005 Chevy Cobalt lights turn off

automatic headlights are controlled by a photo sensor on the dash located in front of the Instrument cluster. to test the sensor try covering it and see if the headlights come on. faulty wiring in the circuit could also cause this problem. the headlights and the radio are wired together and the "auto" function will cause the radio to get brighter when its dark out, thus the combination of problems.

ignition switch may be bad not cutting electricity to car when shut off. the way the ignition switch works, is that when car is shut off, there should be no electricity going through it. if in doubt or ya need help, go to any auto parts store and buy a haynes manual, they are based on a complete teardown of car for about 20.00, make sure you buy one for your make and model and year vehicle.also check main ignition fuse in fuse box.

1999 Pontiac Sunfire won't even turn over, but the

The radio will work even with a dying or discharged battery.

First, be sure to check all of your fuses in the engine compartment.

A full battery will keep the headlights bright with the engine off. With a dying or discharged battery, the headlights will be noticeably dim.

When you turn the key to crank the engine, does the starter try to turn or make a fast clicking? If so, the battery if low or dying. If it makes a slow click then stops, then it's REALLY dying.

If you don't have a battery charger, go to Walmart and get some jumper cables. Hook up a friend's car to yours. If it starts, then the battery was low, either from a bad battery or a bad alternator.

If it doesn't, you have electrical problems, possibly a bad starter or starter solenoid.
