Question about 1997 Mercury Sable

1997 Mercury Sable GS

When accelerating after a complete stop (traffic light, stop sign, etc) car "thrusts" forward after several seconds. Same problem occurs in reverse. Also after shifting to drive from reverse, car rolls backward. Car has just under 48,000 miles. My mechanic tried using an "additive" and also replaced the air idle control motor. The problem continues. Any solutions or ideas? This problem occurs intermittently and not all of the time.

Two possible sensors could be affecting it like the TPS or MAF sensor. The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) might have a bad spot where the ECM won't get signal properly and causes the RPM to fluctuate

Have your mechanic test the throttle positioning sensor (TPS).

Slippage on turns almost always means you are low on fluid.

Flush and filter rarely helps, but is always worth a try.
Remember that only less than a third of the fluid is in the pan, and the rest is in the torque converter, and can not be drained.

When i start up my car it is okay, than it will

It is probably intake air temperature sensor that will trigger faulty code but sometimes it wont. When you have your vehicle on Idle speed will try to kill engine but when you accelerate will be fine untill you stop at traffic light will turn of the engine again.
