There are a few different issues that can be causing this, one is bad injectors, they are staying open all the time and just allowing fuel to dump into the cylinder. The second issue would be fuel pressure regulation valve is not closing and staying open all the time, again allowing for the fuel to dump in the injectors which is causing the injectors to leak down to keep pressure at the proper setting. Best advice here is to take it to a shop or call a mobile mechanic (Generally cheaper, just as much experience and knowledge).

At your local parts store they do sell some tools that would assist with this if you wanted to do it yourself, but I would recommended also getting a manual to make sure you are doing the job correctly, and when you remove the injectors to look at them to see if they are leaking, you have to replace the seals, so if you go at it alone, make sure that you get the seals for the injectors before you pull them.

Good luck hope this helps

Sounds like your fuel injectors are leaking. To fix this, change the o rings on the fuel injectors. Hope this helps, James Booth. Please rate. :)

1998 VW Passat cranks won't start. fuel pump works, fuel up to fuel rail, spark plugs do fire

Improper fuel/air mixture, possibly plugged up air filter?
You have 2 out of 3 of the needed components for that motor to run, and assuming your timing is correct and you have compression, it could be an air intake issue.

I have a 98 vw passat and sometimes take iff slow why is that ??

No power? Your motor sensors are getting conflicting signals, maybe just an oxygen sensor or EGR valve cleaning and some highway miles to settle it in will fix it. Maybe you should find someone with an ODB-II reader (bluetooth, let's say; but it plugs in where those insurance co. readers go) and you pair it with a cellphone to read it (don't check it while drivin', please; the data keeps fine.) Then you'll get all kinds of reasons it's not feeling supercharged from the get-go and can draw a few to fix at a time. Maybe you hit the hypermiling button and it's giving you fixed power to work with...

Spark on that plug? Spark plug sparks? If yes do a compression test.

Where are passat spark plugs situated in the engine

They should be under a compont called the coil pack , its 4 HT coil assy's assembled in a row that fit directly on to the spark plugs(no plug leads ) so you are looking for a rail type componant usually with a multi plug at one end and possible two fitting screws on the inlet manifold side under the plastic cowling that VW love using . Good luck

1998 VW Passat it seems the idle is to low how do

Idle is automatically set&monitored with a timing sensor on the camshaft, i found my engine(1.8 20v turbo) would idle low then go high and almost stall sometimes and all i did was remove the fat black pipe on the throttle and clean inside the throat with a cotton rag dabbed in wd40.Hold the throttle open manually and clean on and around the throttle plate as the oil burnt&recycled creates a hard carbon that stops the throttle working correctly. When did you last change the sparkplugs, air filter, oil and oil filter and remove damp from the spark plug area using wd40 on surfaces applied with a cotton rag. These contribute all to your problem. As you dont state milage etc it could be a worn engine or slipped cambelt(1-2 teeth can make a slight diffirence).

Hi

If the coolant temperature sensor is of the 4 wire type then these are a common failure on VW's.
