Question about 1994 Buick LeSabre

2 Answers

BAD BUICK I've only had this car for a period of about 6mos. When I first got it, it started racing, the idle was really fast. then about two weeks later the idle slowed way down. Then went almost normal but, while I am driving it will die as when I would approach a stop and take my foot off the excelator or coming up behind a slower car, basically any time I would take my foot off the excelator. But not every single time but multiple times w/i a short distance. I would put it in N and turn the key and it will start right off again, until it happens again. This went on for a period of about 5 mos. I took it to the mechanic, he said that nothing is reading on the diagnostics. So I continue to drive it until three weeks ago when it died and would not start. It died the same as what I described before, except this time it didn't start at all, nothing, would not crank or anything. Left it sit 2 days till I could get someone to tow it, and I got in and it started right away as if nothing was wronge. Drove it for 2days same thing happened again died wouldn't start, sat three days started again, drove one day, shut it off in walmrt parking lot, came back 30mins. later would not do anything. Towed it to the mechanic where it is currently, sometimes it starts sometimes it won't. As of now it won't. Please HELP. This thing is so mystifying.

I had a 1992 Buick Riveria that did the exact same thing.....turns out the problem was the Crank position sensor was going out, and unless you have a diagnostic computer hooked into the port when the engine dies; no trouble code will ever come up. After I had the Crank position sensor replaced...8 months later the problem started over again..the finial solution to that problem was the replacement of the Electronic Ignition Control Module.

A few possibilities:
  1. Defective throttle position sensor (TPS);
  2. Bad idle bypass circuit or idle circuit solenoid;
  3. Cracked intake manifold, throttle body assembly, or bad throttle body gasket (most likely);
  4. Serious vacuum leak somewhere.

IAC,,, after start up was still racing, than few starts later was ok,,,for about a month.... racing again...went thru the reset procedure ok for part of the day,,,,racing again giving code for bad IAC,,,...

Had this happen on a Celebrity, and it took a couple of months to find it. It was a cracked
vacuum line located just above the intake manifold. It was very difficult to see. I would
look for short vacuum lines with sharp bends which may be opening and closing on
tension during acceleration or deceleration.

How do slow down the idle on a 1995 chevrolet 350 engine

there not suppose to be any adjutments made for idle. high idle is usualy caused by a problem the computer is trying to confresate for something by keeping idle high ,check see if check eng light is on .check for bad coolant sensor corroted batt cables,poor battery connections, 02 sensors functions.if you really want to take down idle there is a small screw on throddle body in some model look for a air screw ,a large straight edge screw near air intke or on throddle body .but i dont recomend adjusting idle unless you ve fixed the problem that causing the pcm to raise the idle to prevent stalling of the eng

Fast idle

Sounds like your throttle position sensor is bad.
Take it to Auto Zone and ask them to pull any computer codees that may be latched. Not sll codes trigger the check engine light

CAr idles fast - sucks up gas and will shut off periodically.

If it has a high idle I would say that the iac (idle air control) valve is bad and needs replaced. It should be located on the throttle body.

Sometimes car doesn't start up with a immediate fast idle.

Bad transmission, plugs, fuel pumps. That is all I think will definately give u such results.

1993 Buick LeSabre idles too fast

I would Look For A Vacuum Leak, Given the Fact that ALL that Work was Done in a SHORT Amount of Time, And The Brakes ARE VACUUM ASSISTED, that when Brakes are applied the ENG. Light Comes on, Seems to Me It all May be related. It does not take Much to Pop A Vacuum line OFF Accidentally
