Question about Chrysler PT Cruiser

1 Answer

I heard a pop as I was driving and the engine light came on and subsequently started to flash. I changed the plugs and cleared the codes. Two days later, the light come on and started to flash again, and I changed the coils and cleared the codes. The next day, the light came on flashing again, and I performed a compression test, recording 150 in each cylinder, and cleared the codes again. Two days later, the same codes returned. I am now considering a timing belt job, but I need another opinion.

First before going into it that deep, what year and model? Get the codes instead of just clearing them and let me know. I can advise you on how to proceed without throwing parts at it.

This sounds like a harness got pulled. Do you know what the O2 sensors look like in the exhaust system? Locate these and follow the sensor harness back. The P0300 is a random misfire so all the cylinders have a common denominator. The other 2 have to do with the front 2 O2 sensors like maybe something on the road caught the wiring. This will clear everything up and may explain the "pop" you heard. Let me know.

I am sorry for responding late. I am still getting used to the system. I have just read your last response. However, I had already checked the harness and every thing seemed fine. I am in the process of changing the sensors. I shall keep you posted. Thanks again.

I have 2006 Honda Accord se, engine lite started flashing then permantly on bout 1 1/2 moths. Now won't start but belt still goes round, what could it be?

You drove with a flashing check engine light and then with it on solid. Flashing check engine light means STOP DRIVING and get it fixed. So this sounds like an abused and neglected car to me. Get the trouble codes read that are stored in the computer. Check for good fuel pressure and spark. Fix one or both.

Was driving the 2010 Nav at interstate speeds, heard loud pop and check engine light started flashing, engine running rough, lost power. Changed plugs, checked cat. converter, any ideas?

Have the codes read before putting any other parts on. Flashing check engine is a critical warning that something serious is wrong. You could spend thousands throwing parts at it and never fix it.

just look for the blackened/burned pin on the rear light plastic connector and sand it down to re-establish a good electrical connection and save yourself $800 big ones on replacing the multiswitch.

Engine lights permanently on.

Go to your local auto parts store. They will read the code - for free (but they are not allowed to clear the code) and determine what is wrong. Once repaired, you can have the code reread and they should allow you to clear it.
