Sorry you can't. It wont match up and the computer wont run it. You have to replace it with the exact same motor. You can use different years. I suggest that you swap out sensors if it is not close. Also check both engines and make sure that they are the same (ie parts) blocks are the same, but some of the parts can differ, just exchange them.

the engine i got is a 2.0L Japanese replacement for the 98 camry. i was advised to swap out the intake and exhaust manifolds and it would work fine. i am still a little skeptical.

I have tried swaps like this(2.3 out and a 2.5 in) Just looking at them they look close. But before you know it your trying to get the last bolt in and it looks to be a half hole off. And if you do happen to get it together, which I doubt. Then you have the sensors and actuators to mess with.all of them have to be swapped. your ECM is for is for the 2.2, Does the 2.0 have the same type of exciters for the crank and cam sensors? Will your sensors even bolt in the same place on the new engine? There are way to many variables for me to take a chance. I would go with an exact match. When I did the 2.3 and 2.5 The transmission wouldn't bolt up, even though the engines looked the same.

The starter on my 1998 4cyl toyota tacoma is stuck in the on position. The only way to shut it off is to disconnect the neg battery cable.

remove the starter relay from it's socket in the engine compartment relay box and reconnect the battery cable. If the engine cranks, your solenoid has failed closed and must be replaced. If the engine doesn't crank, borrow a 4 pole relay from somewhere else in the relay box and push it into the starter relay socket. If the engine cranks, the ignition switch is shorted to start and must be rapaired or replaced. If the engine doesn't crank, replace the starter relay. If this last case is true, you can borrow the horn relay until you get a new one. Does this make sense. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have a 94 toyota 4runner that needs an engine. theres someone selling a 98 4runner engine, will it fit in my 94 toyota 4runner?

it depends, is it a 4cyl or 6cyl truck? If its a 4cyl, its a 22RE engine, any engine from 84 till I think 99 or 2000 will fit, the big thing is the wiring, if you just need the block and head, it should work. bolt everything else up and slap it in. should take about 4 or 5 hours depending on how much you know about engines. If its a 6cyl...your on your own.
