Check along fender area under hood for relay clicking. Should be a few of them that look the same. Hold your finger on each while someone turns key to make it click. That's the starter relay, may be faulty. Double check numbers on it with others by it and you may find some or one the same to test it.

Hi, what you hear is probably the starter relay which may have burned it's contacts. See if you can find it and swap it with a similar one. If the relay is good, the problem is the brown wire from the relay to the starter solenoid. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

1990 plymouth acclaim wont turn over. battery is good, starter tested good, turn crankshaft by hand and thats good.when you turn the key,all you hear is one click.when i take another battery and a set of...

The first thing to do is get a "load test" on the battery to make sure it is good. A battery can look good on a voltage test but not be able to perform. A fully charged battery should read 14.2 V or so. If it drops to around 11.5V on the load test it should be replaced especially if it doesn't bounce back to 14V.
When you hook the second battery into the system, if your key is on then your starter is using 24V to try to start. The starter and solenoid are bad. If your key is off then the most likely culprit would be the power cable from the battery to the starter and probably the solenoid.Replace the cable and make sure that you clean all the wire connections to bare shiny metal. Poor contact can also create problems If you still have trouble change the starter and solenoid both because you usually have to take the starter off a few months later to change it too, if you just do the solenoid. Hope this helps.

My 90 acclaim turns over but wont start. i put new battery in it, and new spark plugs and wires, plus it has a new starter

First you need to know if there is spark, the simple way to do it is to pull a sparkplug wire, insert a phillips screwdriver into the boot, hold it about 1/8 of an inch from a metal part on the engine and have somebody crank the engine for a few seconds, if there is spark should be of a electric blue tone, if not your coil, or the igniter are bad, if spar is present that will tell you if your problem is somewhere else like fuel delivery or electronic fault,

What should I do to try to start a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim that has been sitting for 10 years other than change the oil and gasoline?

Probably a new battery or jump the battery. Also, if it doesn't want to start, try some starting fluid.

I have changed both the alternater and starter

This procedure usually works:
·Check the battery cable connections:
Make sure the negative cable makes a good ground connection at the battery and (preferably) at the engine. Make sure the positive cable, makes a good connection at the battery and at the starter.

·Check the battery the simple way, like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.

·Check the starter and solenoid:
If the wiring looks ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter(10 volts minimum while cranking).
If the starter spins and no crank, the problem is most likely the Solenoid's pinion gear is stuck.
Have someone hit (not too hard) the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging a stuck pinion gear.
·Make a simple test of the alternator:
If you can, somehow get the engine running, measure the voltage at the battery. It should be at least 13.6 volts to properly charge the battery.

make sure the battery is chaged first if it is then make sure all the terminal connectors are on tight then if issue persists it could be the sylnoid or the starter you can have the starter tested by removeing it and bring it to an autoparts store

1990 Plymouth Acclaim won't start.

Check your battery terminal connections first. The starter draws much more current than your accessory panel and a loose connection at the battery is a good place to start. Corrosion at the terminals can be a problem also. Post your results from this test and we'l go from there.
