Question about GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

What would be wrong with my Jimmy it was running perfectly fine and driving along and shut off and would not start again. They checked the fuel system, including injectors, and electrical. Can't find anything wrong. What could it be?

Hi, Let me pass on some primary advice before you spend any serious money.
The basics:

  • Spark. Check to see if you have spark going to the spark plugs. An inline tester is inexpensive and will give you accurate readings.
  • Fuel. Are you getting fuel to the injectors? The safest test is with a pressure gauge. AutoZone .will loan you one for free with instructions. A lack of sufficient pressure can mean a clogged fuel filter, a faulty pump or a clogged fuel line.
  • Oxygen: Check your air filter and replace it if you have more than 15k on the present one.
If none of the above provide relief borrow diagnostic tester from AutoZone. The vehicle need not be running for the test to be performed. The most likely problem if you're getting fuel is a computer malfunction or a faulty pollution control device. In terms of expense, hope for the latter.

Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ?
Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ?
Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.

i would suggest changing the fuel filter if this does't work check the fuel pressure. and get a mechanic to check the ecu fault codes. as this could be caused by a electronic fault.

2000 gmc jimmy shut off while driving, replaced fuel pump relay, did not help. checked fuel pump and filter, both seem okay. after disconnecting and reconnecting fuel filter, vehicle started and ran very...

Replace the fuel filter first. When you turn the key on, the fuel pump should run for a few moments, then turn off. If it keeps running, then replace the pump as well. Suggest having the fuel system pressure checked at the engine itself. Hope this helps!

Jimmy wont start sometimes

Do you have the 4.3L engine with spider fuel system? That system is noted for problems. Key on engine off, fuel pressure, 60--66 psi, use a fuel pressure gage. It needs that pressure to start, after it starts, it will run with less pressure.
There could be other issues? Engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse?

1987 gmc jimmy wont start

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

Hard starting after sitting awhile

My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.

94 jimmy will not run bad fuel pressure regulator?

Nothing wrong with the regulator. That is how it is supposed to work, it sounds normal.
I guess you will have to get to the spider to see what is wrong. Fuel delivery to the pot seems normal. Could be something to do with injector circuit, IDK. Sorry can't help more.
