Looks like the switch that controls the transmission shift interlock may be bad. Below is instructions on how to bypass the switch and be able to change out of park until you can take care of what ever the problem is. I hope this helps and good luck.

I have a 1997 Town Car and it runs perfectly fine until i park it, then try to start it and put it in gear, it will start up just fine with no noises, and the battery, lights, and everything else is fine,...

Check to see if your brake lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed. If they do not come on, the problem could be the brake light switch or associated connector/wiring. The brake light circuit controls the solenoid (control) that allows the shifter to come out of the park position. The brake light switch is connected to the brake pedal arm. You May have to remove a cover panel (three plactic retainers) to see the switch. A possible solution is to turn the ignition key to the 1st position, then shift the car into neutral. This should allow you to start the car and shift into any gear. HOWEVER, you may not have brake lights (use hand signals) and when you park, use the emergency brake after stopping, shif the car to neutral and not PARK. This will allow use of your car until you can get it properly fixed.

07 chrysler sebring won't shift out of park. have console loose, but it won't come out because the shifter is in park.

Are you parked on an incline? If you are parked heading uphill, you might want to get another car behind you and give you a slight nudge forward and try to shift it out of park. If you are not parked on an incline, press the brake pedal and have someone check your brake lights, if you have no brake lights, it might have your gear shift locked. If no brake lights, check for a loose or faulty brake switch at the brake pedal, Good luck, Gary

My gear shift i stuck in park

check your brake light if they are working, if they do not work then your brake light switch is bad.
if the brake light is working, the shift inter-lock solenoid may be bad.
there is a small slot next to the gear shifter, put a key in there and push down while you shift out of park.

2004 honda accord wont come out of park. Starts fine. Brake is pushed, etc. Daughters car and Im in another state right now.

Do the brake lights work, if not you need a brake light switch. The brake switch controls the interlock system which prevents you from shifting out of park without your foot on the brake.

Shifting Gear is Stuck in ''Park'' position

u will need to check and make sure the brake lights work, the shifter is tied to the brake light switch, if the brake lights don't work or the brake pedal is not pushed a gear shifter lock out is engaged, this is a Federally mandated safety feature.

94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

Gear shifter is stuck in park and is hard to push button in

Have the brake lights checked to verify they work, if they are not working the system will stay locked in park, most likely the problem is a degfective brake light switch.

Car won't go in gear brake lights not working. replaced one switch on brake pedal already

If the brake light switch doesn't work then the solenoid that allows you to move the gear selector out of park is locked out, it is a safety feature required by law, jump the brake light switch with a paper clip ( verify the brake lights are on) and see if you can get it out of park, I am sure it will now come out, then either replace the brake light switch or the wiring to it, many times the wires to the connector of the brake light switch brake inside the plastic insulation, so the outside looks good but the connection is not there or comes and goes, I suspect this is the problem with your car. The solenoid I mentioned is on top of the steering column.

1990 honda accord

when you step on the brake pedal it energizes a solenoid located next to the shifter (under the console) that disengages a mechanical stop which prevents you from putting the car in gear w/o the brakes applied. Safety First. If that solenoid goes bad you will experience this. The brake pedal switch could come into play here as well but not certain of this. are there any other symtoms such as brake lights don't work?
