but what would cause the dash, tail and bu lights not to work. I understand that if the dash lights dont work the tail lights and bu lights dont work. If the dash light fuse is good. why wouldnt the lights work. could it be the multifunction switch, brake light switch, low battery even if car starts and runs.

Now is your battery charged up properly? Are you still facing the same issue ?

Usually jumping has nothing to do with the ail or dash lights.

Check the wiring . There can be any issue with the wiring .The chances of switch is also there but have a check at the wiring too..

Left brake lights may have short in wire ( not working)

Not a short, or both brake lights would not work. I suggest you have a defective bulb socket or bad socket ground, check the ground at the socket.

2002 Chevy Malibu. Left side brake lights not working. Brake lights come on when car is started, so I know that (new) bulbs are fine. Any ideas? Right side lights are fine.

the socket (or board) that the bulbs are on are known to go bad. its actually a common repair. the lights coming on when vehicle is running is just a parking light not the brake light. you either installed the wrong bulb(needs to be a double filament) or the board is no good. Good luck

yes you can just be careful no to touch the new bulb , the oil from your fingers will cause it to fail prematurely.

2005 Chev 2500 HD -- Rear passenger brake light is out. I replaced once with new light and it went out again. All other lights are working. Anyone else have this problem?

Was the replacement bulb purchased an orignal equipment manufacturer from a Chevy dealer or a parts store.
Some aftermarket bulbs do not meet OEM standards and can cause this type of problem. A good parts store will carry OEM replacement bulbs.
If it is the correct OEM bulb, we can go from there.
Let me know.

Chev Cavalier 2003 only one rear turn/brake/hazard light

I have a 2002 Chev Cavalier that had the same exact problem. I replaced the bulb harness (purchased from a chevy dealership for around $5) which was fairly easy to do. I have had zero problems with it since.
