My fuel gauge won't work? i have a new fuel pump ( 1992 chevy truck)

most often it is the fuel level sender, this is a variable resistor attached to a float inside the gas tank. so before you start pulling out the dashboard, drop the tank and take a look at the sender. on a car that old often the float has become corrupted and no longer floats on top the gas. before you drop the tank and pull out the sender, make sure you can buy a new replacement for it. there is generally a large O-ring around the hole it inserts in, get your hands on one of those too before you begin. the gas tank hanger straps may be too old to come apart and reassemble too so have a contingency plan for that. if the fuel pump is in the tank with the sender, there is some chance the sender was not reconnected when that was replaced if the problem arose after the pump replacement.

good luck

1987 chevy silerado truck is the fuel pump in the gas tank or where?

yes. you'll need to disconnect the fill tube that runs from where you put the gas in to the tank. Then undo the bolts that hold the metal straps that hold the tank up in place. lower the tank and disconnect the metal fuel lines from the assembly on top of the tank itself. turn the assembly cover counter-clockwise by tapping on the circular flange with a screwdriver and hammer. remove and replace the entire assembly. sometimes you can buy just the metal or plastic cyliner pump. if so you can save an awful lot of money. the entire assembly which includes the strainer and fuel gauge mechanism can cost $200-$300 , but the pump alone could be as cheap as $40. if you go the later route, take care with the fuel gauge mechanism. it is delicate...

Where is the fuel pump located on a chevy malibu

It's located in the gas tank and to replace it, your going to have to drop the gas tank.
Thank you for using fixya and if you are going to replace the fuel pump your self. Make sure you also replace the wire harness from the frame to the fuel pump.

My 92, chevy 5.7 v8 will start 4 a moment then dies pumping the gas doesnt really help either ive changed the spark plugs, wires & cap, fuel pump egr vavle, checked fuses & it still wont run

Sounds like the fuel pump. it is in the gas tank and rather pricey for the Chev. trucks. easiest to drop the tank and clean area around it really good first.

Chevy s 10 pickup will not crack , possible

first off - there can be other factors - long before the fuel pump - - how about the filter? if u spray fuel into the intake does it run for a few seconds or at least 'fire off' showing it wants to run but needs fuel? Also check ur spark before u go that far - as to the tank -much easier to remove the tank - EMPTY -- get a friend -as it is gas and once it goes - it will kill u quick - - and put a jack under the tank - remove the bolts - lower it just a little bit - then remove the lines - there are special lines so check with the dealer - free advice they are good for too - - also take down the VIN number and check for a recall - might be a free repair -

I have a 2002 chevy avalanch to replace the fuel pump

You can do it, but it's a mickey mouse way. Cut a hole in the floor above the gas tank where the fuel pump mounting plate is. Be careful not to cut any fuel lines, wires, or the tank itself, or you could have a fire or explosion. Then when you are done, you will need to reattach and seal the cut-out section somehow. Too much rigmarole if you ask me.
Much safer to just drop the tank... a litle more work, but less pissing around. Good Luck.

Fuel pump 1992 chevy S-10

You have to drop the fuel tank to get to the fuel pump. not a difficult job but it is time consuming and an extra pair of hands will be very helpful. First thing to do is get all the gas out you can, asses how you are going to remove the tank and then start. Don't forget to be very careful with the fuel lines, disconnect them and reconnect them carefully.
