This is an indication of a failing oil pump so yes, unfortunately. Use the Motor Craft filters and the proper oil when this is repaired. Unfortunately, I do not have any info on replacing this pump however, I do know that it is on the front of the engine. i would start by having a trusted tech do what they call a "wet test" meaning they use a old mechanical guage screwed into where the oil pressure sending unit is located to determine the "actuall" pressure. If it has already started knocking at idle, it may have already done irreversible damage to the main bearings and require more extensive repairs. Have him do the test and let me know and will advise from there.

My v10 excursion overheated going up a hill, I quickly pulled over and the car turned off. After an hour we checked gauges all was good so we started truck. Knockign started when put in gear and gas.

Sounds like the bottom end went out in the motor. Whoever tried to tell you the oil shifted is full of garbage. The oiling system is pressurized and designed to not starve the engine of oil under normal use. Proving that a quick lube place is responsible for engine damage is nearly impossible which is why many people won't use them. If you do you have to inspect the fluid levels and check the filter and drain plugs yourself. Every time before you accept the vehicle back and sign anything. Sorry to say it sounds like you may be spending big $$ to fix your ride. It's possible that the bottom end can be redone but since it ran hot I would not risk it. With aluminum cylinder heads it only takes one time of running hot to cause damage to the top end of the motor.

Where is the oil sending unit switch located on a 2001 Ford Excursion with a 6.8L (V10) engine?

Hi, it's usually close to the oil filter. See if this picture makes sense.

I got in my 2001 Expedition, started it up and the oil pressure light came on. The guage was down to 0. I stopped it and started it again. The guage press. went up and then slowly dropped at first and...

oil pump gears inside the lower engine, or electrical. 1st make sure its full on oil, then sheck it with another pressure guage to confirm its not actuall pressure.

Oil pressure light is blinking.

It's very possible a coincidence and that the flashing oil light is the oil pressure switch. I'd check it out immediately to make sure there's sufficient oil flowing through the engine. Merely jump starting the car shouldn't have knocked anything loose so to be on the safe side, assume there's an oil pressure issue. You were right to not use the car in the interim.

Oil pressurer loss ford bronco2

It's normal for the oil pressure to fall off at idle as it gets warmer because the oil gets thinner. It should operate between about 20 and 60 lbs. If it drops below 10 lbs at hot idle, you may have some bearing wear or a worn pump.

Engine knock...

Oil pressure might actually be a bit high for idle. High or low oil pressure in an older engine tends to be indicative of some serious issues. Oil pressure that is too high tends to be a clue that you have serious carbon build up. That aside, have you tried running a higher octane fuel, or perhaps adding an octane booster to your normal grade? Pinging can become knocking in a badly worn engine. One recommendation: At your next oil change try substituting a quart of marvel mystery oil or lucas engine oil treatment in place of one quart of your normal oil. Both have some pretty good track records for helping to free up sticking valves and break up carbon in older engines. I'm an old timer myself, and I personally swear by Marvel for older engines. There is no "rebuild in a can" but Marvel comes close. Give those a shot, let me know what happens.
