Possibly located at the back of the engine behind cylinder head, usually located in a small plastic hose block.

SOURCE: engine number location for 2002 audi a4

is it a 1.8 turbo or 2.8 V6 or 2.7 biturbo V6 ? on most models what you will be looking for is a 3 letter code like ATQ or APW and is normally on a sticker on the timing belt cover, it is also stamped into the engine on a ledge up high. if no luck there check the owners manual, around the 3rd page there will be a sticker that was put in the book during predelivery inspection this sticker is about 3 inches by 3 inches and filled with id codes for almost everything. If the pdi wasn't done right another copy of the same sticker will be under or next to the spare tire in the spare tire well.

Hi Stephanie
That is the radiator symbol,Telling you that your coolant level is low.

Water pump

You have a coolant leak and your car is overheating.

Coolant is a mix of antifreeze and water and tastes "sweet"(WARNING: DO NOT EAT!!).
Is your temperature gauge pointing in the "red"(needle pointing to the far right). The temperature guage is on your dash with a thermometer symbol.

After the car has cooled(a few hours) find the source of coolant leak(green fluid).
It is most likely a hose or a hole in your radiator(large aluminum box attached to the front of the car behind the grill).
Fix the Hose or replace your radiator(depending on location of leak), and refill with proper mix of antifreeze(you can buy premixed coolant at your local auto parts store).

replace the thermostat first.then vent the system by undoing the clip on the heater return hose (on top of the firewall) when you refill with antifreeze..

Relpaced 4.0 engine after blown head gasket. Now get faint overheat signal.Sensor on dash does not light up at ignition. New radiator, thermostat, thermostat sensor. Don't know if engine is actually...

Make sure that the engine has enough antifreeze and has been bled of all air in the system by topping off the fluid over a period of a few days of running it hot and cooling down.

If the engine is not boiling over, and you don't notice any performance problems, perhaps the false signal of overheating is being sent to the dash board.

In that case, don't worry too much about it.

You can try to measure the actual temperature of the coolant/antifreeze by using a cooking thermometer dipped into the radiator's coolant/antifreeze with the cap off (if it is of the appropriate design that allows this) starting to measure the temperature from a cold start and waiting for the coolant to circulate.

Good luck on this repair.

What type of antifreeze for a 2006 audi a6 quattro? Low coolant light came on and then went off, sometimes after i turn off the car a little liquid drops out but not a huge puddle, so maybe a little leak,...

Audi cars use a special coolant called G12. It's not compatible with the typical green coolants you'll find at an auto parts store. You'll need to buy it at an Audi or VW dealership, or you can order it from www.germanautoparts.com, www.ecstuning.com, www.blauparts.com, or www.purems.com (I've bought from all four of these companies, and they're all top-notch). It's not terribly expensive, although it does run more than a typical coolant (I paid about $20 for a gallon of it at a dealership a few months ago).

FYI, the power steering fluid and the brake fluid in an Audi are also proprietary fluids, so if you go to order coolant, you may want to order a bottle of each of those as well to keep on hand.

Temperature gauge goes alittle past half and coolant light comes on dash

First thing to check would be coolant level, and bring up to proper level if low. Has this been done?

The thermometer lights came on what does that mean? what does it mean when anti freeze is overflowing randomly after sitting for two hours?

If it's overflowing.... I doubt it was just sitting for two hours. Overflowing is because of overheating or a blockage, which only affect the car when it's running. It is not overflowing, but simply leaking, then you have a leak. Pressure test the system, replace what's leaking, and, depending on the coolant condition, top up or flush it.

I suspect this vehicle has been overheated, because you asked about the lights for engine/coolant temperature, and because you said "overflowing". If this is the case, do the same thing as if it were a leak, but have a technician check the cylinder head for fractures and warping as well.

Next time pay attention to the temperature gauge and don't wait for the "idiot light" to come on on the dash. A slightly high gauge is a problem, but an engine/coolant temperature light is usually an expensive problem.

My temperature gauge warning light is coming on periodically...oil level is fine. What should the temperature be at? Is it possibly a sensor problem?

The temperature guage measures the coolant temperature, not the oil temperature -- the normal range is indicated on the guage.

Check your coolant.
