Question about Mazda Protege

1 Answer

My Mazda Protege (2001 2.0l) keeps shutting off at stop lights, My car runs fine the rest of the time. only when in gear and my foot is on the brake. I replaced the battery terminals since they were corroded anyways, but I thought it might be a connection problem. that still hasn't fixed the problem. Any advice???!!!!

Take a look at the air intake boot between the air cleaner housing and the engine. It is a black, rubber, accordian looking tube. They have a tendency to get tears in them which lets in unmetered air into the engine and can cause stalling at idle in gear or surging on acceleration.

What special tools are required to change the rear brakes of a 2002 mazda protege?

If it is a rear disc brake system, the only special tool would be an allen wrench:

Turn the manual adjustment gear counterclockwise with an Allen wrench to pull the caliper piston inward (turn until it stops).

If it is a drum type brake system...no special tools...just a screwdriver, pliers....

2001 mazda protege dx 5 spd dies, brakes are seized up?

It seems that one of the pulleys is bent, or you are using the wrong timing belt. I would suggest changing them. That would probably explain why the timing belt keeps breaking. The braking problem can be related, or you simply have a leak somewhere in the system and should try bleeding the brakes after thorough inspection.

Mazda protege with no dashlight on.

First you must cut the Dimmer wire from your stereo installation.Second, replace the 5amp or maybe the 7amp fuse that blew at the fuse panel near the LEFT foot rest.If you are certain that all the fuses check fine, then go to your MAZDA dealer and purchase a new thumbwheel dimmer control, because the rheostat has burned in your present one.Do not reconnect the dimmer control wire 2 your stereo wiring, because U don't need to.

Car shuts off when I let off gas

One of the most common issues with stalling at idle situations is a dirty or faulty IAC motor, especially when no trouble codes present. Take it off, clean it up & port (hole) it came out of with throttle body cleaner, and then try it. If it cures it, great. If it does it again later, replace it. What's $5 for a can of spray & half hour of your time to find out?

No brake lights

Sounds like it is your brake light switch which is located on the brake pedal itself.  Should cost around $20 at autozone and is pretty easy to change out yourself.  Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!
