Question about 2005 Ford Freestyle

1 Answer

Heat will not come out of dashboard or floor vents. It only comes out of the two, small side windshield vents. Mechanically challenged. Does this need to be seen by a mechanic and is this something covered by an extended warranty?

Sounds like the servo in the plenum may be stuck or broken. Have you checked your fuses?

Probably would not be covered by a "extended Powertrain warranty" but would be by a bumper to bumper

It is the vent control. It is located on the passenger side behind the dash. It is vacuum controlled. It can fail and not let you change the vent positions.

Check the actuator motor and rods on the heater box inside. The motor moves the doors in the heater to direct the heat to the area you request. It is a small motor on the driver side or in front of the heater above the dash.

2000 lincoln navigator when i turn on my heat i smell antifreeze from the vent and moisture on windshield

you have a heater core leak. If you start seeing coolant on the passenger side floor, that is another dead giveaway. This is not any easy replacement, you will have to remove the entire dashboard. Heater cores are pretty cheap though, the last one i bought was for a dodge, it was $35.00. I hope this helps.

Popping sound

It sounds to me like you may a vaccuum line thats either leaking or detatched. What your hearing is the vaccuum controled vent system that determines where the air(a/c or heat) is directed out, at your windshield, dash vents, floor vents. . etc. Unless you smell exhaust, i wouldn't be concerned. Theres small plastic hoses behind the dash. have a person that knows what they're doing to take the dash apart if you can't do it. check these small lines for fit or cracks.

1994 Buick Roadmaster won't divert heat to defroster or floor

There is a vacuum line that's plastic on the passenger side back near the firewall. Sometime they have a little black ball looking thing (vacuum canister) that the vacuum line hooks to. Look for vacuum leaks in that area. That will cause the problem you described.
