Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If you are able, you need to change it. It is only a matter of time before you will have to anyway. Pretty soon the rust will turn it into big holes.

My 2002 jaguar x type 2.1 is slow to pick up speed I've changed the spark plugs the coils the O2 sensor checked for air leaks and it's still the same I've been told it could be the catalytic...

There are many things that could cause that problem but yes the catalytic converter can cause that as well as the muffler or resonator if the car has one. A few ways that you can test that is;
*place a vacuum gage on the intake manifold, start the engine and raise the rpm about 2000 rpm while noticing the engine vacuum. If the engine vacuum starts to drops, the exhaust more than likely has a restriction (could be catylytic converter/muffler/resonator).
* take the exhaust loose before the catalytic converter and drive the car to see if it has power again even though it may be noisy.
If the exhaust system is rusty, there is a good chance that the problem is in the exhaust system. If the exhaust system is not noisy or leaking try puttin your hand over the rear exhaust pipe to stop the exhaust from exiting; there should be a fairly strong push against the hand if the exhaust has no restriction and if it is restricted the push against your hand will be very light or minimum which could indicates an exhaust restriction.

How at fix a sqeaky muffler

if you stilll have heat sheilds around the exhaust system then check then for looseness as these will cause a squeak or rattle can try to tighten the sheilds or remove them.their purpose is to help keep the exhaust cool.if its a small pin hole in the exhaust it can cause a sound like you will have to find the hole and if the system is not rotted weld the hole closed.if the system is no good then replace the bad part.if the noise is from the inside the muffler you can try to dent the muffler were you here the noise to try to stop it or just replace the muffler.

Knocking noise from the back end same side as exhauast and also sounds very rough on sart up and idle after start up untill running for a few mins can you help solve this thank you????

Most likely a bad converter and/or muffler/resonator. If they are plugged up, will cause exhaust system to 'rattle' and engine to run poorly due to restriction of the exhaust. Basically chokes your engine. Inspect and replace exhaust components. Usually a decent exhaust place can test and replace as indicated...rusty or dented components are a dead giveaway......MIke

I have a 1997 chev cavalier, and as I was driving I heard a dragging noise, I looked under my car and the tube from the exhaust that connects to the muffler is off, what will i need to fix this, my brother...

Take your car to a muffler shop and ask them if it's possible to reweld the exhaust pipe to the muffler. If the exhaust has rusted too thin, they wont be able to weld it safely, at that point you will have to replace the entire system unfortunately. Exhaust systems comes in sections, so ask them if its possible for them to replace the exhaust from the catalytic converter back only. It should be cheaper if they can do that. Good luck!

I have an exhaust leak. How can I fix the problem?

Nothing worse than driving a noisy car to make you feel ashamed.
You could try to have it patched, but a car that old is probably pretty rusty underneath.
You have someone replace the section of pipe with the hole in it.
If you can afford it I'd probably replace the muffler too.

03 expedition used to stall after driving for an hour, now muffler is loud and it does not stall anymore

Sounds like your muffler and/or catalitic converter are plugged. maybe even the tailpipe.backed into any dirtbanks? now that the muffler is leaking the engine can exhale. look it over, check it out closely I think you'll find your problem.

Ok where at in the exhaust system is it at? If its at the engine then you will have to have the exhaust gasket replaced, if its somewhere in the piping or the pre muffler or muffler then that will have to be replaced.
