Question about 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, Z-71, 4WD. The oil pressure gauge is pinned completely to the right. The problem developed very slowly in that the gauge got higher and higher over several months, would slide back to almost normal at times, and then finally pinned all the way to the right. Dealer says it is not the $80 "sending" part, but that I need a new cluster - $500+. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mark

There are places that still repair instrument clusters ( I have done it!). What happens is that the guage is driven by a little motor about the size of a quarter and that fails not the guage. Those little motors can be soldered into place and work just fine. Or, you can try finding a used one for around $75 - $100 depending on your part of the world. Let me know if you need anything else.

The oil pressure sending unit works on resistance if the sender gets hot the resistance value may be out of spec causing the gauge to go to full. or you could have a loose or bad connection causing the resistance to go High.this may why it only happens on long trips.

Oil pressure in 2005 tahoe moves one side to the other is either all the way to the left or all the way to the rightside of gauage.check oil and is fine?

Oil Pressure sending unit gone bad. Cheap but difficult to locate. Depending on engine, sending unit can be behind distributer on block. If not the sending unit the gauge itself. Most likely sending unit.

Oil pressure guage not working

I would check the oil pressure sending unit, it's at the back of the engine, by the intake manifold on the driver side. The gauge could be bad, but I would check the sending unit first.
