Question about 2000 GMC Yukon Denali

1 Answer

I recently changed the exhaust on my 2000 yukon denali from the manifold to the cats.(cats included) it came in one piece to bolt up so wasnt too bad, but where the end of the cats meets the mufffler the gasket keeps disinigrating what else can i do prevent that. Is there a better gasket or something I can put on it to make it better. And everything was bolted tight and allingned right so i do not know why it is dissovling the gasket abnd i need to fix it right ive already gone through three stock gaskets and it sounds horrible because the air escaping is hitting the ground and makes a sputtering sound

That gasket should not fail prematurely. I'd really need to see it to get a better idea why it is. But, since I can't do that you may want to consider making a plate from copper, drilled out to gasket size, but allowing it to protrude on the outside perimeter about a half inch. Install it on the cat side of the gasket. That will act as a heat sink and also seal better than just the gasket alone. When you tighten it up, don't tighten one side all the way, then the other. Instead, alternate sides as if you are torquing a cylinder head. That way even pressure on both sides will prevent damage to the gasket.

You can check with a local hardware store or metal shop for the plate. It does not need to be really thick. (about the thickness of normal sheet metal). You can use regular tin snips to cut the outside and for the inside, you can use a dremil. Best to cut the inside pattern first so it does not deform while making it. When I work with something like that I find it sometimes helps to screw it flat on a piece of wood so it can't spin out and hurt you.

2007 Yukon xl denali burning oil

If you smell burning oil, you may have a leak in the engine compartment reaching the exhaust manifold and burning on contact. The most common cause for that is leaking valve cover gaskets. If you are losing oil with NO signs of external leaks, the engine may be burning it internally. Valve stem oil seals, worn piston rings, blown/leaking head gasket are a few causes of that.

Where is the oxygen sensor located at on a 1994 gmc yukon

Majority of GM that year is on the exhaust manifold or pipe coming off the manifold before it goes into the catalytic converter. Kind of looks like a spark plug with a wire coming off of it screwed into the pipe.

Try an OEM gasket from a GM dealer, it may cost more then aftermarket, but will perform better. Also some times the flanges gets warpped and won't have good clamping pressure to hold the gasket, make sure they are clean and flat. I've used a very hi tempature RTV sealant on problem flanges when other methods have failed with good results.

Start at the exhaust manifold flange on the drivers side. The first sensor you come to before the cat. converter is the sensor you are looking for.
