Hi,

An engine has one spark plug per cylinder. If your engine is a V6 then it has 6 spark plugs, if it's a 4 cylinder that obviously 4 spark plugs. I believe the ML350 have 6 cylinders therefore 6 plugs.

However for your next query it is dependent on the application and condition of the engine. High revving engines, driven hard, (eg motorcycles) will wear plugs much more quickly than a large engine car which is used for cruising. Standard copper plugs usually have an estimated service life of 10,000 to 20,000 miles depending upon design and application, Denso recommend changing their Iridium Power plugs before the maximum 30,000 miles, and NGK's Iridium IX may last up to 60,000 miles in a standard use car engine. Double platinum types may last 60,000 miles or more and some NGK and Denso OEM Iridium types may last up to 120,000 miles. The plugs optimum performance level is passed a long time before these intervals so we would recommend changing plugs regularly as a matter of course. An engine, ignition or carburetion/injection fault or poor adjustment may cause premature wear and/or failure. Tuned engines, engines driven hard, poor quality fuel amongst other factors can all dramatically reduce service life.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

Some Mercedes Benz ML 350 have two sets of spark plugs per cylinder depending on the year of your vehicle. Call the dealership and ask how many spark plugs you need, this would be certain when you provide them with your vin number.

How to change the alternator on 03 mercedes benz ml350

it is on the right side of the engine. It is hidden under the engine ecover and cold air ducting on that side. To get it off is two bolts and one connector. You will need to take the serpintine belt off as well. I don't have a image for that right now but either find one thata shows where the belt goes or make a drawings before you take it off. That way replacing the alternator is not a headache and should take less than an hour.

Rick,
The brake lamps on your Mercedes are computer-controlled. I would recommend scanning your computer network for possible fault codes.

On a 2006 ML350, is it necessary to get the transmission service (new filter) after 48K miles??

yes Mercedes changed the transmission service interval to 40k miles but then after that you don't have to service the transmission until you reach 140k miles. It is a good idea to the transmission serviced at this mileage especially for warranty purposes. There was a lot of issues with the new 722.9 transmission when it first came out. Which is one of the reasons Mercedes moved up the transmission service from 100k miles to 40k miles for the first time it needs to be serviced anyways. Plus if the transmission happens to need repairing the first thing the dealership will look for is to see if the trans service had been done at 40k miles before doing any kind of warranty work on the vehicle. As a former Mercedes Benz Tech at the dealership I would say yes it is necessary to get the trans serviced.
