Question about 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Driving down the road. Went to slow down and transmission jerked, then it wouldn't shift. The gauges all quit working. Pulled off road. Car died. Tried to start but battery was dead (new battery). Any thoughts?

It sounds like the vehicle has stopped charging the battery.Charge your new battery first and see if it starts,or put a volt meter across the 2 teminals and read the voltage ,if it is below 10.6 volts the powertrain control module and the transmission control module will nt funtion due to low voltage.The alternator has an external regulator located in the powertrain control module,which regulates the voltage at 13.6 volts.If this is the case you need to test the alternator.You can take it off and take it to an auto parts store(they will test it at no charge),or you can get a scanner and full field the unit.Start there and let me know because the underhood fuse panel(pdc)could also cause problems.thank you Ramundoo

First, congrats on the most detailed problem description I have ever seen! Seriously, it does assist us.

All this is completely consistent with your clutch not releasing properly, meaning that the gearbox is still turning when the pedal is depressed. The syncros in the gearbox will then keep you out of gear, that is what they should do. You can indeed shift into higher gears however when driving as the gearbox revs more nearly match to what is needed. The jerking forward when you hit the starter is due to the poor old starter motor having to move the whole car instead of just the engine, because the clutch has not released !

Now as to why, it is likely that the clutch release fork has broken, inside the housing. I had this once with a Mazda, and symptoms were exactly as you describe. The gearbox has to be removed if this is the problem, and you should also then take the chance to renew the clutch, pressure and driven plate both, unless quite new.

Also a possible cause is a complete loss of clutch fluid if a hydraulic clutch, or a broken cable if that type of clutch. Loss of fluid in a hydraulic clutch can be easily checked in the fluid reservoir, and can occur if a hose splits

I was driving 95 gmc sonoma was in 5th gear doing 70 shift light came on then it started to slow down shifted out if gear then it wouldn't go back in gear truck died when I left in neutral to pull over...


You will need to have the transmission control module scanned for fault codes codes first. If no codes are in memory it is likely you have a failed transmission due to a mechanical fault. You will need to test it down ion that case to repair the problem.

I have 2003 BMW 318i, my transmission light comes on and off while driving and when it's on the car would **** while slowing down.Lately I had the air filter changed the transmission light stayed


Definitely a trans problem

Seeing as how you have continued to
drive it, even 5 miles,when it wasn't working
correctly, as well as ignoring the fault code
light,I doubt that there will be a fix

Your most likely going to spend north of $3,000
for a reman trans

The air filter housing would have to be almost off
& you would have checked that before asking

If it were loose, it may upset the shift stratagy,as the
MAF Sensor may be part of that

But the slowing down,& slamming into different gears,
just one day of driving like that, you ruin the trans

I have a 1994 buick skylark with 2.3 and a/t it runs and drives great except when slowing from high speeds it dies when approaching a stop. it jerks like transmission isn't shifting. when u restart it,...


Check for vacuum leaks on all hoses underhood. Make sure all intake componets are intact and they are tight.

Is the check engine light on? If so, get to an auto parts store, they should pull the codes for free.

Sounds almost like a bad throttle position sensor. The computer uses the TPS to help know when to shift on this car if I remember right, and if the TPS is bad, it can cause that jerking. Along with the car dying when slowing down after driving. But check everything else out first. Including electrical connections.

you have to take your car to workshop and check transmission with computer, that is ONLY way to know problem of your transmission.

Transmission went out


This is internal gear separation. this can happen when the transmission is either old or, hasn't been serviced in a while. the gear ratio can become unstable during long term driving and, if not serviced properly, it will fail. this type of high efficiency trany can be quite fragile considering the age of this motor vehicle. i suspect many seal issues as well. i would rebuild as soon as possible.
