There's a list of things that could be the cause of your problem:

  1. Oil in the spark plugs - a leak in the manifold cover gasket could lead to oil fouling the spark plugs
  2. Bad or loose spark plug wires - Check wires for any bare spots; also push on the wire boots to ensure they have good contact with the spark plugs
  3. Crack in the distributor cap; this lets moisture in and can lead to the car misfiring
After ruling out the items mentioned above, it will be easier to narrow down your problem further. If you post back, it would be helpful to know the mileage on the car as well as any service done on the car recently.

Kia sportage 2007 sputters when I drive jerks and this am as I tried to speed up it didn't seem to want to shift up just reving ??!! I changed allready pump belts and do many other parts what could it be ?...

sputters in the context if engine, means MISFIRING, is it?

for a transmission, they dont sputter. sorry

but can jerk, or snatch, (being caused by gears engaging way to late)

(aka, harsh shifting) the opposite of slip

but it can slip then engage, causes a jerk. or harsh shifting.

see?

they do 100 things wrong, mostly never to sputter.

they don\'t shift up or down

they slip. (bad tranny)

if engine sputters, its tune up time, (posted like 10,000 times here)

if the transmission has issues, have real mech test it and tell you

all the symptoms, and possible ideas.

why not?

the A/T is a very very complex electro /mechanical device.

sputter is a word best for engines. like chain saw with a bad spark plug it sputters along and stalls.

does your car stall?

Car is stalling and jerking then runs fine

There should be a trouble code or codes stored in the engine computer. A hand held scanner could retrieve them-go to Autozone for a free scan service. The codes indicate to a mechanic where to start looking-whether it is a fuel, or air, or ignition spark delivery problem.
Things that should be checked are the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, check fuel pressure, check for air obstructions into the engine (like a dirty throttle body inside-sometimes a cause of stalling), check for vacuum or air leaks that let unmetered air into the engine. There is an ideal ratio of gas to air mixture that the computer is always trying to achieve. When it does, the engine runs fine and gas mileage is optimum. This is why it is important to keep up with regular maintenance and service. Get the codes to see if the computer is doing what it does best, better even than an old mechanic with a good ear.

Spark Plugs are never an issue

They should be changed every 3 years
as preventative maintenance,not to fix
something,they wear,they don't fail to fire

Did you check for codes?

Could be any number of things,on different
systems

Need to have the car diagnosed

I would like to know how to get better gas mileage on a car-do I need a new air filter-it is only a 4 cylinder car.

The best way to improve gas mileage is to change your driving habits. K&N filters claim they can increase mileage, but there really is not 'miracle device' that can do so. Make sure the vehicle is running well, plugs and wires are all in good shape, air and fuel filters are clean.

Stay on highways as much as possible, and drive around with a glass of water that has no lid and is filled pretty high. Attempt to drive without spilling the water. This will drastically improve economy.

My car is a 2002 Volkswagon Passat. Just of recent, it jerks when I engage the gear from park!!

Check your transmission fluid level on the transmission dip stick while the engine is running. When fluid is low it results in a snatching at gears especially when engaging 'drive'. Add the correct fluid (check with VW on the correct type for your specific car) via the dip stick tube. Do not fill beyond the maximum. If you do not correct this the constant snatching will eventually cause the splined end of the input shaft to shear off and this will be an expensive repair.

Check the vacum line to your fuel pressure regulator, the line may have a crack in it or the regulator may be bad.
