Are you allowing the gas in the tank to run very low , before you re fill it, if so, you are allowing the fuel pump to overheat, due to a low amount of gas in the tank, this makes the pump work harder, and it will gradaully destroy your fuel pump. always re fill your tank before you get to 1/4 of a tank or more.

After replacing a fuel pump in a 2003 Kia Sorento, cannot get pump to work with ignition key. Checked pump prior to installation at battery and it works perfectly. Any suggestions would help. Than

If pump now not working either it is defective or it is not receiving power. Check the wiring for fuses, relays, bad connections, etc. Check schematic to study links between the ignition switch and pump.

How to Replace a Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter in a Cadillac

The Cadillac has an electric fuel pump, and you should check its fuses and relays and ensure you have fuel before inspecting the pump. If your vehicle still has difficulty getting fuel, you can clean or replace the fuel pump.

Things You'll Need:
Fuel pump kit
Fuel tank sending unit wrench
Torque wrench Replace the fuel pump is challenge.
1.Determine which fuel pump your Cadillac Escalade will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models built from 1998 to 2000 have a 5.7 L engine, 2002 to 2006 models may have a 5.3 L or 6.0 L engine and models built after 2006 have a 6.2 L engine.
2.Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Relieve the fuel system pressure, drain and disconnect the fuel tank.
3.Disconnect the fuel and evaporative emission lines from the fuel tank. Remove the fuel sender assembly and the seal with a fuel tank sending unit wrench, and pull the strainer off the fuel sender. Remove the fuel pump's electrical connector and its retaining clip from the fuel level sensor. Remove the fuel sensor's electrical connector from the fuel sensor in addition to its retaining clip.
4.Remove the fuel level sensor by squeezing the locking tangs and remove the fuel pressure sensor. Discard the old fuel tank seal and fuel strainer.
5.Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be to replace the fuel strainer and seal. Use a torque wrench to tighten the attaching bolts for the fuel tank strap to 30 ft. lbs.
The following is the instructions of replacing fuel filter:
The symptoms of a bad fuel filter include a loss in horse power, very sluggish acceleration and, in some cases, difficulty starting. Replacing the fuel filter is always the best policy because you can't reliably unclog a filter. In the Cadillac Escalade, 2002-2006, they replace easily. The 5.3L engine filter replaces in a different way. Manufacturers suggest replacement of fuel filter every 60,000 miles.
Replace the fuel filter is easy.
1.Locate the fuel filter. Normally this is on the passenger side wheel well or just inside the engine compartment. In the Cadillac Escalade, it mounts on the fuel tank and is integral with the fuel pump assembly. Before removal of the filter, disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve the pressure in the fuel system.
2.Lift the vehicle to gain access to the fuel pump assembly. Remove the threaded fittings from the filter and cap the fuel pipes to prevent contamination. Inspect the o-rings on the fuel pipes and replace if deteriorated.
3.Change the filter and reattach the fittings immediately. Tighten the fittings to 18 foot pounds. Remount to the clip and lower the vehicle. Reconnect the negative battery cable and start the ignition. To fill the filter and get gas to the ignition system, turn the ignition on for two seconds and then off for ten seconds. The vehicle should start after this.
4.Replace the fuel filter at the first opportunity. Filters are not serviceable items, they are disposable. Never rely on a clogged fuel filter for any length of time

    • Negative battery cable
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Drain the fuel tank.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel tank

WARNING Do not handle the fuel sender assembly by the fuel pipes. The amount of leverage generated by handling the fuel pipes could damage tool Joints.

  6. Disconnect the fuel and evaporative emission (EVAP) lines from the fuel tank module.
  • Fuel sender assembly retaining ring using a fuel tank sending unit wrench. Remove the fuel sender assembly and the seal. Discard the seal.
  • Note the position of the fuel strainer on the fuel sender. Support the fuel sender assembly with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand. Pull the strainer off the fuel sender. Discard the strainer after inspection. Inspect the strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer and clean the fuel tank.
  • Fuel pump electrical connector
  • Electrical connector retaining clip from the fuel level sensor
  • Sensor electrical connector from under the fuel sender cover
  • Fuel level sensor retaining clip
  • Squeeze the locking tangs and remove the fuel level sensor.
  • Remove the fuel pressure sensor.
  • To install:
    1. Install or connect the following:
      • Fuel pressure sensor
      • Fuel level sensor
      • Sensor retaining clip
      • Electrical connector to the fuel level sensor
      • Electrical connector retaining clip to the fuel level sensor
      • Fuel pump electrical connector

NOTE Always install a new fuel strainer when replacing the fuel tank fuel pump module.

      • New fuel strainer in the same position as noted during disassembly. Push the strainer on the bottom of the fuel sender until the strainer is fully seated.
      • New seal on the fuel tank

NOTE The fuel pump strainer must be in a horizontal position when the fuel sender is installed in the tank. When installing the fuel sender assembly, assure that the fuel pump strainer does not block full travel of the float arm.

      • Fuel sender assembly into the fuel tank
      • Fuel sender assembly retaining ring
      • Fuel tank. Install the fuel tank strap attaching bolts. Tighten the bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
    2. Refill the fuel tank. Install the fuel filler cap. Connect the negative battery cable.
    3. Turn the ignition ON for 2 seconds.
    4. Turn the ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition ON.
    6. Inspect for fuel leaks.

Hey i have a cadillac sedan deville 1992 where is the fuel pump located

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank. On these GM cars, the fuel tank must be dropped in order to change the pump. It is alos recomended that the fuel filter be changed at the same time which is on the frame of the vehicle, left side. the pump at autozone runs about $75 and don't forget the strainer for about $10. The filter runs about$10 also.
