Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2L All Time 4x4. If I drive the truck a few miles down the road at 70mph it will start to chug. While I give the truck gas it will try to accelerate on and off. The IAC and the IAT are clean, The crank sensor is new. The pcm is new. The coil by the battery is new. The injectors have been checked. The alternator is new. The spark plugs are new. Any ideas? I'll ship you a case of whatever beer you want if your idea works! Please help!

High MPH and chugs = Clogging fuel filter. Also check the air filter. No beer needed.

Testimonial: "Fuel filter was replaced. Turned out to be the pickup coil. Went bad after a year. My own fault. Shouldn't have purchased it from auto zone just because they were the only place Penn Open that late. Thank you."

My 06 grand cherokee laredo has a 4x4 emblem on the vehicle, and a traction button on the dash, how do I operate the 4x4?

Your jeep should have full time four wheel drive. To place the transfer case in low range look down to the console towards the rear and you will see a "T" shaped handle. To place it into low range you should stop place the vehicle into park and lift the T handle and in the dash a 4X4 indicator lamp will light up. The traction button on the dash would be used in 4 wheel high mode when you start to experience wheel slippage upon take off from a stopped position. This will give you a little more control. You only need to use the low range for very slow speeds in mud or snow. Otherwise just leave it in high range because it is always using 4 wheel drive. This is a very reliable system which Jeep has refined over the years. Your Grand Cherokee is not designed fro hard core off road use. Hard core off road use will destroy the undercarriage. The Grand Cherokee is more of a luxury soccer mom 4X4 with good road manners, a comfortable ride, and good reliability.

I have a 93 jeep grand cherokee laredo it has 4all time neutral and 4lo should i keep it in 4all time all the time or does that ruin it

Yes, Your Jeep is what is known as a Quadra-Trac. This type of cherokee is an all wheel drive model. 4 wheel all time is for everyday driving, Neutral completely dissconects the drive train from the transmission and will not move at all. 4 wheel low is more for off road conditions where traction is compromised. 4 wheel low should NEVER be used at speed above 15 miles an hour.

To the guy above: 4 wheel drive is designed for low end pulling power and safer handling on slippery road conditions. 4 wheel drive has NOTHING to do with how fast you go or how fast you stop. Don't post a comment if you clearly don't know the correct information.

4x4 light and knocking noise after driving

If you hear the noise after the engine is turned off that noise is most likely the exhaust system cooling down. As far as the light for the 4 wheel drive that requires a test be run with a special scan tool while the problem is occurring.
