Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee with 110,0000 miles. At about 50mph rpm's drop and I loose power and check engine light comes on. Light will go off in a day or two and problem goes away but will return. Is my transmission bad?

The auto parts store said the check engine light was transmission but I didn't know if it could be a sensor.

You should go to an autoparts store and see what the code is that is stored in the computer. The major autostore scan for free. I am betting that it is the TPS though. THat would be the throttle position sensor.

They should tell you the code that is associated with it. If it is a tranny issue then it is associated with the torque converter lockup.

P1763 and p0303 codes for my 02 jeep grand cherokee. car is super sluggish and shakes when gets to 50mph.

no engine stated.??????????
303 is gross misfire on #3 cylinder. on all cars.
its a for sure thing, means bad combustion on #3 and its power is weak. 1763 is tranny The 7 means that. and is problem2.

ever get a 60k miles tunup this decade?
sparks plugs, spark wires, filters, air and fuel>?
spark plugs dont last life of any engine.
THE CEL blinking (oper guide tells) means that misfire
is burning the CAT converter to a crisp. (raw fuel + air does that)
the opr. guide says get it serviced, fast, dont drive fast or tow anything. all great advice in the glove box.

get a cheap tuneup, and magic can happen in most cases.
misfire has many causes. over 20.
but a tuneup not done, is 99% cause. (due to nobody doing them)
only fate , determines truth, not statistics....
for example you sucked a valve on #3..

if the new spark parts dont fix #3 a compression tests is next.
or an injector balance test say from #3 to one other injector.
all this is like 1hr work, but no engine stated, so.....

What makes the car start and run but gauges go off and key light comes on

The first part is magic, (EFI system and good engine)
but?????
gauges go off can be a bad fuse or loose fuse to cluster.
when any Gas engine stalls. the RPM drops to 0
the EFI sees that and goes to key on, not started self test.
this is covered in the operator guide.
key light comes on KEY LIGHT, HUMMMMMMM
Let me look at the waring lamps, there are many.
one light is engine overheat that is logo of a thermometer but looks
just like a key.
http://dashboardsymbols.com/the-symbols/
is this a engine stall post
or engine runs perfect all the time , but only my dash acts funny
you didnt say?

key lamp?
immoblilzer (big trouble there)

a stall is anytime engine RPM drops to zero. called a STALL.
if your cars engine stalls, post that way, the lamps are all normal
on at any stall, on any car.
at a stall , rpm goes to zero and MPH drops to zero as you coast to a stop , stalled. that is all normal for any stall.

if engine stalls.
that is complex.
here is list.
  1. lost 12vdc power to EFI system. (battery died, fuse blown)
  2. never gave your car the 60,000 mile tune up, see opr, guide.
  3. bad fuel.
  4. overheated the engine.
  5. engine oil gone, never ever checked at each fill up.
  6. other more complex EFI system parts failures, ASK.

Im experiencing high rpm while driving. At 50mph im at 3000 rpm and my fuel economy is tanking. what's the problem?

The transmission torque converter is not in
lock-up, as the rpm is too high

Should be about 2,800 tops at 65mph

whats your question, the light is a emission light and all repairs are covered up to 50 thousand miles, the mice damage would fall under your comprehensive part of your auto policy. the mice call a good rodent exterminator.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Power Loss

a bad cam sensor will cause vehicle to shut off while driving, and cause a hard time starting. but this usually sets a trouble code p0340. scan vehicle to see if any codes come up. after it is fixed, erase codes with a obd2 scanner. if you do not have one, you can go to any auto parts store and they will erase codes for free.
