Question about 1990 Chrysler Imperial
If you have the digital dash the mechanic is probably correct. The "body control module" is located under the passenger kick plate and controls a multitude of unrelated functions like odometer, fuel gauge, and headlight covers. Replacement must be the same part number, and critical factors are digital dash, and EVIC (overhead display). I just replaced mine last week from the local pull it yourself yard. Applicable donors are '89 & '90 Imperal, Dynasty and New Yorker.

It's a cable. Find another mechanic. I could look at one and tell you in a second if it was cable or not.
