Question about Lincoln Town Car

The driver's side power seat in our Lincoln Town Car is in the full back position and will not move. The problem started as a ratching sound in the motor and the seat moving in jerks rather than the normal smooth operation. The switch was working because the seat was trying to move. The fuse is also good. After reading several of the previoius posts for this same problem it sounds like I need to remove the seat and power seat transmisssion. How can I get instructions on how to do this?

sounds like gear or seat track is damaged.

    You can remove the entire seat, usually only 4 bolts and a few wire connectors.

    SECTION 501-10: Seating 1998 Town Car Workshop Manual

    REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Seat —Front Power
    Removal

    NOTE: The driver power seat procedure is shown; passenger seat procedure is similar.

    Move the seat all the way back.

    Remove the front front seat track covers.

    Remove the bolts.

    Move the seat forward.

    Remove the rear front seat track covers.

    Remove the nuts.

    Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).
    Disconnect the connectors.

    CAUTION: Use care when handling the seat and track assembly. Dropping the assembly or sitting on a seat not secured in the vehicle may result in damaged components.

    Remove the seat from the vehicle.

    1. Remove the front seat; refer to Seat-Front Power in this section.


    1. Remove the front safety belt buckle end (61203).

      1. Remove the nut.


      1. Disconnect the connector (driver side only).


      1. Remove the front safety belt buckle end.


    1. Remove the screws and cover.


    1. Remove the bolts.




    1. Remove the bolts.


    1. Remove the connectors.


    1. Disconnect the connector and remove the front seat track (61704).

Bolts should go through the floor with a nut underneath the car. No need to try to access from inside.

More than likely a fuel problem. Try the fuel filter or check pressure from the fuel pump. If it misses at higher rpm it coiuld be spark plug wires or plugs.

Call a large junk yard and have them find you an entire seat out of another similar car. Bolt that in and be done with it. disconnect the battery before you unplug the seat wiring connectors.

Air bag code 33 for a 2005 lincoln town car
2005 Towncar SRS Code 33 (3 flash + 3 flash, repeat this set for twice. then Beep 5 times pause x 5 = 25 beeps every 30min).

This means you have problem with left (Driver) side pretentioner (Seat belt retract system).
It doesn't mean physical belt or retract mechanism.It is just bomb wiring which is part of airbag system.
When airbag deploy, passenger must stay tight in seat otherwise body lean to front then slam back to seat by airbag.
if belt is loose or delay to lock, passenger's body rocks back and forth.So, system use small bomb (Fire power) to lock and retract seat belt when airbag deploy.There is small bomb and igniter in part of Seat belt retractor.
Code 33 is warning for this part on 2005 Towncar.(older model is different meaning in Ford/Lincoln, it's possibly passenger side airbag system for earlier model)
Before you work for any part of Airbag system and touch any "Yellow connector", * *Disconnect battery (negative side is good enough) and wait at least 5 min to clear all power in system**.(Airbag store back up power for few minutes to be able to deploy even in case if power disconnected)
by the way, you should move your driver seat most forwarded position before you disconnect battery to make it easy to work with seat belt.
locate driver side seat belt retractor (in center pillar between front and rear door, you may have to fight with weather strip)

Locate Yellow connector on bottom of Seat belt retractor (it's called "Pretensioner")it is located on very bottom of rear side of retractor.
only one yellow connector. (make sure your battery is disconnected)
Check its physical connection or looseness.if connection looks fine, you may have to replace whole seat belt ($180-$200 in Lincoln dealer)
You can check if pretensionor is good or bad by regular tester, but unless you know how, I won't tell (because I don't wan't you to blow out pretentionor).

Power seat moves back whenever car is turned off. can this feature be disabled?
The idea of this is so people can get out easier, i am sure if you disconnect the power it will stop doing this but then u will be stuck with the seat in 1 spot.

The driver side power seat is not working in my 2005 lincoln town car, how do i fix it?
might be as simple as replacing the fuse #601 in the BJB (battery junction box) under the hood

this single fuse controls power to ALL the functions of the seat, up/down, forward/aft, tilt and back rest

additionally, there is only one ground!

if ANY of these work then the fuse and/or ground is not the concern

furthermore, since the seat actually contains 4 separate motors it is quite unlikely all 4 failed

so if the seat will not function in any/all positions then you are most likely dealing with a switch problem!

replace the switch and let me know your results

Driver's side front seat won't move
It is likely the gear on the motor came off track with the seat. The seat will have to be removed and bottom panel disassembled.

The electronic control for moving the seat back
Sometimes a coin gets trapped in the track, remove the seat and check, and clean and lube the track, some times all it needs is a little lube, or it might be the seat motor that is bad, you have to unbolt the seat to find out.

on our 93 lincoln town car it was the switch that was not working we had to remove the control panel for the seat switch on the driver door and replaced it with one from a salvage yard.

Power front seat won't go back and forth
U will have to replace the entire power seat transmission, there is no other way to get the part, I know it sucks but that is the way it is, try finding a used unit, or swap the passenger side to the drivers side.
