Question about Isuzu Rodeo

2 Answers

I need to replace a thermostat on a 2002 isuzu rodeo. 6 cylinder motor. I heard a few rumors that i got to take apart the intake manifold to get the the housing for the thermostat. I followed the upper rad. hose to the block and it looks like something i never seen before. The upper rad. hose runs into the alum. housing but it also splits off to the left and goes to a pulley on the front side of it, a sensor on top of it and another hose coming into the back of it. Am i in the right place or i wrong.

Hi, I think you're on the right track. Here are instructions from autozone.com:

3.2L & 3.5L Engines

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain engine coolant from the radiator and engine.
  3. Disconnect radiator hose from the inlet pipe.
  4. Remove the thermostat housing, then remove the thermostat (2).

Fig. Exploded view of the thermostat housing (1), thermostat (2) and outlet pipe (3)

To install:
  1. Install the thermostat into the outlet pipe (4) making sure that the air hole is in the up position.
  2. Install thermostat housing and tighten the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  3. Attach the radiator hose to the inlet pipe.
  4. Refill the engine with the proper type and amount of coolant.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Start engine and check for coolant leakage.

Bad theromostat 3.2 isuzu how to

The thermostat on the 2001 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L v6 is located on the top of the engine under the upper intake manifold. In order to replace it you will have to depressurize the fuel system by running the engine with the fuel pump fuze removed until the engine dies and then carefully remove the fuel rail and injectors. Then remove the intake manifold which will give you access to the coolant nozzle fixture attached to the top of the engine. The thermostat is in the top of the engine block under the nozzle fixture. Be sure to replace the thermostat with the proper replacement part (may be difficult to find) and put on new gaskets for the intake manifold before replacing it.

How do i change the thermostat on a '02 rodeo V6?

Hi, you have to start by removing the fuel pump fuse and start car, when it dies try to start again, no more spluttering just cranking, the fuel system is now depressurised. You can now disconnect both of the quick disconnect fuel lines at rear lower section of inlet manifold this is hard to get to some access this by removing the EGR valve so you can get your arms down there watch out for sharp edges of manifold. You dont need to take the top section of the inlet manifold off but will need new lower inlet manifold gaskets to head. Once manifold is off block all intake ports with rag or put tape over ports to stop dirt and stuff falling into ports while continuing to work on the coolant pipes below to get to thermostat. Undo only 4 long centre bolts and the 4 nuts, one in each corner(no.3 in picture).

This would be the intake manifold gasket that needs replaced if the diagnosed correctly. It is on the top of the engine. If your husband properly replaced the intake manifold gasket and you still have the problem then the diagnosis was wrong and something else is the problem.

Replace thermostat on isuzu axiom

I just had a garage replace my thermostat on my 2002 Isuzu Axiom. The book calls for 2 hrs labor, no way. iI took the garage more like 5 hrs plus, they ate the additional 3 hrs of labor. Note, the intake manifold must be removed and even then special tools are needed because it is still buried deep down. The garage took pictures ot this one because of how ridiculours Isuzu designed the location.

2000 isuzu rodeo V6 3.2l thermostat replacement

Well, as you said, Isuzu engineers are not the brightest. We are in the process of trying to figure out how the oil got full of water! If anyone has experience in the 3.2 V6 2000 model and where the likely failed spot for the cooling system is, I'm all ears.
To your problem, the thermostat housing is located under the intake manifold, yes under it. You will have to remove the intake and fuel injection system (lots of fun) to get at the hard pipe lines under and in the front of the engine. Once there removal and replacement of the thermostat is easy.
