Running out of fuel will / could kill a fuel pump, doesn't make it hesitate. Check the air filter, replace if necessary. clean the throtlle body inside and out, use a brush. clean the back of the throttle plate. clean the mass air flow sensor if you have one , don't use a brush on this. brake clean is the best to use. Also when your done cleaning, start the engine, may take a minute, then spray the brake clean into the throttle at higher RPM's. This usually resolves the hesitation problem with GM's. Let me know Randy

It could be a lot of different things. It could need a good tune up. A fuel filter. Or it could be a little more involved like the fuel pump. You said that you have ran it out of gas a few times, believe it or not but the fuel pump gets cooled off by the gas in your gas tank. If running out of gas is a common occurrence for you the pump could have gotten too hot overheated and now is showing signs of failure. The first thing I would do is check the spark plugs and possibly replace them. That is going to be the cheapest route. If not then it could get more involved. Good luck!

Broken timing belt damage engine 93

You mean it will crank but not start ? Do you have normal compression, spark and fuel pressure ?
If the timing belt broke you won't have compression on all cylinders.

maybe it didnt run out of gas but just shut down, if it did run out it may have sucked up dirt from the botoom of the tank causing the fuelpump to lock up, what you can try to see if the pump starts again is to spray starting fluid into throtle body and cranking the engine, the engine should start and will die out after fluid is burnt but may stay running if power stays to pump and it frees up, you may have to try this a few times, if you spray and it doesnt start then you may have a diffrent problem. make sure to have someone hold pedal to floor and spray for 3sec, then release gas pedal connect hose to throtlebody and try to start. good day.

the converter is what is restricting power from engine. causes of a bad converter are: decreased engine power, indicated by low rpms on the tach. hesitating or bucking during acceleration, the car will loose power going up a hill. if engine runs hotter then usual and coolant is up to par, it may indicate a bad converter. also black smoke from tail pipe is another indication of a bad converter. good- day!!

Beetle will not start after rinning low on gas

If you ran really low, I mean out of petrol almost, then all the rubbish at the bottom of your fuel tank could have been drawn into the system.

First you have to re-establish fuel flow to the engine. I'd try changing the fuel filter first, could easily been blocked, its the easiest starting point. Should be easy to get at and, once replaced, Give the key a couple of turns and check the filter, is there fuel in it. does it flow onwards.

Assuming you've got good fuel flow at this juncture. try again, you'll have to turn the key a few times, just to clear any air locks you've created.

After that, You're into the realm of clearing out the injectors / carburettor jets.

Here are your possible problems. 1)Leaking injectors(Rare), Leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator(Common) Bad Engine Temp Sensor. (Common), Here is what i would check. Find the Regulator and pull off vacuum line, (located on fuel rail near injectors) check if there is fuel present in line. If yes replace regulator. Check temp sender with a scanner your looking for a reading in the (-) or below 140deg F, when car is first started and smoke present if yes replace engine temp sender for computer(not sender for guage!) IF both those pass inspection replace injectors(Not common problem)
