Question about Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

The car was in good shape, drove it home with no sign of any problem with the transmission and the next morning I started it and it wouldn't go forward or reverse. I brought it to shop and they said I was looking at 2-3K in repairs. Car has only 62k miles- I dont think its worth more than 4.5K Am I wasting my time getting this repaired

Did they explain to you what was wrong?

  • acaltex May 18, 2011

No explanation, except it may be an internal issue w/ trans, there is a cable or hose that the tow truck driver had to connect cause he couldn't keep the car in neutral

First don't trust a shop or person that wont explain to you what the problem is. Even if you don't know what I am talking about I will explain till you half way understand. I would get it to another shop or person that will tell you what is wrong or why it is wrong. Sounds to me that some one is trying to take you for a ride. To put in a short form. A transmission can lose all power and not work because of a fuse/ relay. Some one can say internal and charge you thousands of dollars and change a 50 cent fuse. Email me at randyohler@att.net we can go threw some things that you can check.

flassed less engine power wth????????? Flashed reduced engine power ! Electronic throttle control problem ! Your best bet ,take it to a GM dealer , buick , cadillac , GMC . You do not have diagnostic test equipment or knowledge to even diagnose this.

Toyota camry drove home and parked and now won't move? NO ****** ISSUES BEFORE THIS!

It will not move in Reverse either? It could be

- the shift cable has broken
- the parking lock pawl has broken
- park/neutral position switch faulty
- transmission manual valve faulty

I think one of the first 3. There isn't much you can do except have it towed to a transmission shop.

98 Ford F150 w/4.6l Wont start. Hear fuel pump click. Have pressure on fuel rail. Pulled #1 plug from head and plugged back into wire. Grounded plug and cranked. No spark. Changed wires 4 and 7 four days...

have diagnostic codes checked to see if you have a cam or crank sensor fault. make sure fuel pressure is at the required pressure, just testing to see if you have fuel at the valve is not enough. replace all spark plug wires. if you replaced two then all are just as old and even when they "look good" does not qualify as "they are good". Replace coil pack. start up drive away happy

2000 Ford Tarus- Took off from stop sign just fine then car wouldn't go faster. As I pushed the gas, the car reved but wouldn't go. Pulled over and shut car off. Started car again and tried...

I would guess that something inside of the transmission has failed and there is no longer a mechanical connection between the motor and the drive axles regardless of what gear you attempt to move in.[sheared splines, broken planetary, etc.] Often when this happens you won't hear any kind of noise because of the failed parts being inside the transmission case...instead the car just won't go anymore. You could have a CV drive axle joint that has failed but generally they will make some noticable rattling or grinding noise as they churn away when you try to go forward or reverse. If something has failed inside of the transmission then the transmission will need to be removed and repaired. It if is just a drive axle joint that has failed then that can be replaced without doing anything to the transmission. Hope this helps and good luck!

We drove in parked it then the next morning it just wouldn't start. It turns over and thats it

First check for spark and good fuel pressure if these are good then the ignition switch is the culprit.
