This is going to need to be inspected by a trusted transmission expert in your area. This has got to be a visual inspection and diagnosis. If this has been serviced very recently, get the estimate and take it back to the shop that did the service. It sounds like it may have been overfilled or the wrong filter installed (not likely). It is also possible to have had a leak and when it finally got to a critical level, started surging and overheated causing the fluid to almost boil. This is the code definition -

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus this morning my wife called said the car was surging when she was stopped. Rpm would move up and down. Any idea.

Check for dirty throttle plate/bore and any signs of a vacuum leak. Is check engine light on? If so scan for any codes that may pertain to this issue

How to fix p1744 on 2001 ford expedition

This code has to with the TCC - Torque converter clutch
P1744 TCC TCC The PCM picked up an excessive amount of TCC slippage during normal vehicle operation. TCC slippage/erratic or no torque converter clutch operation. Refer to Diagnosis By Symptom in this section. You'll need to pull the transmission out an replace the torque converter ! Your better off taking to transmission shop an having a proper diagnosis done !

2001 ford taurus in gear (drive) won't go forward afrter a full stop. Ideas?

Have you checked the transmission fluid? IF that is ok then the issue is most likely related to either the torque converter and solenoid or the brake sensor switch.

What does the code p1744 mean

That appears to be a transmission torque converter code

Google-- as I did & read about it

I would have a professional scanner pull that code,
to make sure it is correct & seek advice from a shop
of your choice

Obviously-- I wouldn't even use any vehicle, with any leaks,
repair them, your asking for bigger issues

Just bought a 1999 ford taurus. Service ensgine soon light comes on. A message says low coolant. Diagnostic code that it throws is P1744. Will adding coolant to it clear this code or are they unrealted?

HI, sorry to tell you this but the DTC P1744 is being set do to excessive slipping in the transmission so coolant wont help this. The low coolant is probably due to a crack int he expansion tank where you add coolant. I would recommend stopping at a local transmission shop and let them tell you your options. Good luck

I have a 2001 taurus,DOHC,24 valve.....At first the car would surge real bad, like when you pull up to a stoplight it would jump and idle rough and die,,,,Ive changed the tps,DPFE sensor, the EGR vaccum...

You do not mention any testing, the transmission and engine are fully electronically controlled, have the system scanned for fault codes as a first step in repair.
