Question about 2002 Toyota Sequoia

2 Answers

2006 Toyota Sequoia - liftgate won't open, but handle not does not appear to be broken. Automatic door unlock is not unlocking the liftgate either. Is there an7y way to open the liftgate from either inside or outside? This has been the worst car ever. Thanks.

Thanks. Before I proceed, I wanted to make sure that you were aware that the only window not working is the rear lift gate window. The others work fine. Does that change your recommendation at all. I think there are two switches for the lift gate - one on the dashboard and one via holding the key (all the way to the right or left) in the lift gate lock.

If it's not unlocking, The only way o get it open is pop off the trim piece that goes around the window. On the bottom panel there might be two screws to remove on each side. If not then it will pop off to a point, because there are screws on the bottom you can't access. Pull it back and reach down and find the rods that go to the latch. usualy the one that is horizontal is the one that unlocks the hatch. move it left or right to unlock it, try the handle to see if it opens. If it doesn't reach again and open it from the other rod. Pull up on it. Good luck

Any idea what to do if the power window is not working. The dealership suggested that I needed a new window motor and module. I tried popping it with a hammer, but it did not work. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

If all the windows are not working I would suspect the module. If it only one, drivers, I would go for the easiest first. The switch. Then work my way to the motor. the switches will also pop off from the bottom / back side. you can use a test light or volt meter to check it. You will need a wiring schematic from this point out. Make sure you got power in and power out, going up and down. if you have this then you have to go to the motor. check for power there. it will be on both wires at separate times, ie up and down. Let me know Randy

Go ahead and remove the panel, if you haven't already and see if it has it's own module. First what I would do is disconnect the plugs and plug them in to see if there is a bad connection. Then check for power to the unit/s. Check for power at the motor first then work your way back, of couse you will have to push the button and/or turn the key for power to the motor. then check at the module if it has one there in the hatch. If not then it will probably be in the drivers door. There are screws to remove from it, some are hidden behind plastic buttons, then it will pop off or pull up on the panel and it will come off. pull up first. Of course we know there is power there because the other windows work. One place to check if you have no power to the lft gate window is where the wires pass threw the body to the lift gate. they have a bad habit of breaking there. Also check the button in the dash for power if it not to difficult to get to. And again the bezels in the dash just pop off unless you see an obvious screw. THe voltage you are checking for is 12 volts, so a test light will work, or a volt meter. Just a note , when you check the motor plug it has 2 wires, depending on which way the motor is turning either wire can be hot as the other is ground. These 2 wires switch back and forth on there power. ie.. dc motor. Let me know Randy

Lift gate will not open

If you can hear the lock and unlocking of the mechanism in the rear door latch with the key fob and the electric button on the side doors, but the outside handle will not open the rear door, then the handle has broken off from the inside. The plastic handles can now be replaced with stronger metal ones. Several other possibilites, including cables and actuator problems. Sequoia owners have had a lot of problems with this. Good luck, i hope this helps.

How can i get the back door to open if my latch is broken?

You need to take out the broken piece and you will be left with a rectangle hole to insert a tool. I took a screw driver and bent the last inch over just past 90 degrees. I then inserted the bent end in and felt the latch mechanism (it is horizontal). Put the tip of the bent screwdriver on the lever and then pull down. Make sure the hatch is unlocked. You can pry open the space between the glass and the rubber and look down with a flashlight if you have trouble feeling the latch. There is also a good video on You Tube. Type in Sequoia rear latch handle and you should find it. It is about 10 min long and show you how to take off the inside panels to replace the broken part

Back door handle broke.how do i get the cover off to fix it to open it again?

use a long screwdriver, approx 8in and skinny. Under the handle you will see the broken part on the right side. remove that part and insert screwdriver striaght up as possible, then point down to push lever inside door. REMEMBER to unlock doors first, after inside panels removed and license plate, you can remove the license plate box and replace handle

The liftgate handle broke

It is possible to open from the outside. Remove the plastic piece that broke off from the outside of the tailgate. Use a penlight and you will see the mechanism. Get a small screwdriver and place into the hold...You can feel it spring when you have it in the right place...Push down on the screwdriver to make the mechanism pull the release cable. Make sure the vehicle is unlocked..It should work...My mechanic can open it in 10 secs with this method.

Broken rear hatch door handle on Toyota Sequioa

It sounds like the handle has become disconnected from the mechanism. You will have to remove the inner door panel and reattch. It is not a complicated or difficult job but if you get a professional it could cost upwards of $100.

The battery in my 2006 pontiac vibe went dead. I recharged it; however, the setting for the door locks changed. It now unlocks automatically when I turn the car off instead of when I put the car in park. I...

The 2006 Vibe no longer has that feature. It was discontinued after 2005. I have the 2005 so I know how to change it. If your 2006 is able to change then here are the directions from my 2005.
Programmable Automatic
Door Locks
If you have an automatic transaxle, your vehicle is equipped with an auto door lock/unlock feature which enables you to program your power door locks.
Your vehicle left the factory programmed to Mode 4.
The following is a list of the available programming options:
Mode 1: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. There is no automatic door unlocking.
Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.
Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the shift lever is moved to PARK (P) with the ignition on.
Mode 4: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift lever is moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and all doors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgate unlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or to LOCK.
To change the mode you are in, do the following:
1. Set the interior lamp control dial to the door position.
See Interior Lamps Control on page 3-16.
2. Move the shift lever into PARK (P) and close all doors and liftgate.
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Within five seconds after the ignition is turned to ON, press and hold the power door lock switch in
the lock position for about five seconds.
5. The interior lamp will flash to indicate that the mode has been changed. For example, if the lamp flashes once, the function has been changed to Mode 1.
If the battery is disconnected or run down, the mode is changed to the initial mode which is Mode 4.
