Get new spark plug cables and change them but only one at a time so the firing order does not get mixed up.

1998 Ford Escort coil pack question

The small difference in ohms does not sound like an issue. But spark going down plug is not right. If spark is going down side it usually means plug is bad or wires bad. Once spark makes arc down plug it usually has made plug unusable. You may want to get wires and plugs and try again. Don't try checking for spark with wire not fully on plug. Motorcycles I have had used to arc down porcelain and plug was instant junk when it happens.

Ok i recently changed spark plugs on my 1994 buick skylark. when i was done changing plugs i started car up and smelled strong exhaust smell. so i checked the plugs wires and found out that when i pulled...

Did you mean coil the 1994 3.1 did not use a distributor , sounds like a bad coil pack and cylinders #3 and #6 do use the same coil. I would also check 3 and 6 plug wires this system is a waste spark design meaning when # 3 coil fires it is supposed to go through #3 plug wire , through #3 plug ( ground) through the engine block through the #6 plug then through the #6 wire then back to the coil, Then when #6 fires it works the opposite way, so in theory you could have one bad wire affecting 2 cylinders .....

How do I determine which coil is bad without a "check engine" light?

Run engine to normal operating temperature, Turn engine off remove one spark plug wire from spark plug. restart engine.Where protective gloves, hold the end of the spark plug wire approximatly one quarter of an inch from engine block or exhaust manifold, you should not only be able to see the spark arc to the engine but hear it as well,as a pronounced snap.Repeat for each cylinder. If you find a bad coil before you have finished the remaining cylinders( NOTE ) cylinder and continue on until all cylinders are checked, because there could be more than one cylinder down at the same time. Before replacing any bad coils make sure you check the wire harness going to each bad coils connection, burnt, missrouted, unpluged at connector and propper voltage supply at plugin connector.Once this is varified replace coil and check for a good spark.I hop this is helpfull for you, good luck.

2000 Buick LeSabre Limited. 6 cylinder. 32,000 mi. Engine shuddering under load. Computer code indicates random misfire. Lots of things can be replaced from coils to plugs to cables to injectors to vaccum...

Start by testing. You can pull the plugs and see if one or all of them look bad. This can indicate which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Then I would start with checking for spark, using spark plug wire pliers pull each wire and see if it arcs, if it doesnt then that means that you have a bad coil. Then check your wires for any damage and then check them with an ohm meter. If all that checks out then I would do a fuel pressure check. And somewhere along the line do a good check for broken vacuum hoses and bad wires.

2001 Firebird V6 Sparkplug Diagram

The Firing Order is 1-6-5-4-3-2
When you take a wire off of the spark plug of a running engine, there is supposed to be an arc.

Remove and examine the spark plugs. See what condition they're in. It may be way past time for their replacement. Also check the spark plug wires. These are often neglected, and break down after time.

Engine misses at 35 mph code po 304 coil pack plug wire replaced

Information courtesy of http://obd-codes.com

A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor (s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
Possible Solutions If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Hope this helps with your problem. Best of luck.

Car Misses after replacing the coils and spark plugs

Has the service engine light come on? If so, have the codes pulled and it will narrow down the cylinder that is causing the problem.
If no service engine light, have you narrowed it down to one cylinder or is it random.
Let me know and we will go from there.

Replacing spark plug wires on 1995 Buick Riviera

You need to drain some coolant. Loosen and disconnect water lines by the firewall- the ones in the way of your wire change. u need to get a diagram of the firing order of the engine so that those wires are correctly connected to the coil packs.

Cylinder number 5 is misfiring. Check spark plug, spark plug wire and ignition coil for the number 5 cylinder. The number 5 cylinder is the closest to the front of the car on the drivers side. With engine running in dark (at night) take a spray bottle of water and lightly mist spark plug wires and coil and look for arcing. Autozone will test coil for free.
