Question about Chevrolet Lumina

Car has to be charged every time to start, I need diagrams or pictures of the different fuses, I want to unplug the radio fuse and the security fuse I don't what they look like in the fuse panels

You cant unhook the security. This is directly tied to the starter and/or the fuel injectors part of your computer. If you have a 2000 - 2003, the radio is also hooked through the security and will shut down your vehicle if removed. This same problem is happening in my girlfriends 2001 impala. We are saving some money to buy the 180 dollar wire harness so we can eliminate the radio and put in an after market one. Im hoping this will keep the broken stock one from killing the battery every other night. As far as security systems go, here is a link all about that.

After getting a jump start my interior lights, radio and clock stopped working

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. at the moment, I don't know if you have fusible links? Check your charging system. If battery is down we can't do any testing.
If the radio loses battery voltage, it may go into theft lock? As far as your interior lamps, I'd have to check the wiring diagrams. Any component or system that is fuse protected, not only check the fuse, check the fuse circuit for voltage, use a test lite. Some fuses are hot all the time, some go hot with key on.
Some vehicles if battery voltage is lost, there may be some modules that have to relearn or be reprogrammed?
I need year--make--model.

You can invest in purchasing an online repair manual for the year, make, and model of your car; or buy one at a local auto parts center like NAPA, PepBoys, Autozone - make sure it includes wiring diagrams for the fuse panel.

Has the check engine warning light illuminated on the dash? Do you have any Diagnostic Test Code faults being generated by the OBD II system?

The Ignition Off Draw (IOD) is responsible for powering the Engine Control Module or Power Control Module (or whatever name your manufacturer gives theirs), in order to maintain its memory functions. Some recommend that this fuse be removed if the vehicle is going to be sitting for any undue length of time because of the parasitic draw of the computer and the other features, like security systems and such use as well.

Vehicles have a battery drain relay that kicks in once the battery voltage drops below a certain level so that the battery is not drained completely; making a battery re-charge viable, instead of going through the expense of having to buy a new one each time something like this happens.

Each manufacturer has specific draw test procedures to perform to properly diagnose the problem down to the component level- I really don't think that having just a diagram will suffice since the tests are detailed.

I purchased the Ford Motor Company's repair manuals that the dealership mechanic's use- for my Excursion and F-250; expensive, but then again, I do a lot of my own repairs. Especially when repair shops charge over $125.00/hour for diagnostic and repair work.

Continous blown fuse

the fuse , blowing is for 2 reasons
1: wrong fuse. (too small, do not put too big in, use right size.
2: dead short on this power line.

the fuse prevented the FIRE.
what to do? well, look at the fuse
then look in the FSM for this electrical page, 1 of 50 pages.
for radio.
then look at the output side of fuse, that goes to the radio.
at any point alone this wire and the radio bad.
can be a dead short to ground,
look for DAMAGE, if the radio was hacked into car, id look there first.

if you need better help, tell me exactly what fues blew,
the marking on box, or the label for this fuse, , not went dead.
ive been around the block, so know radios are 1/2 time wired wrong.
fuse 32, 7.5amps runs the radio and ECU. (page 23-52 in FSM)
white-blue feed wire, (this is shorting if car is still wired STOCK)
all comments USA cars, other countries use different wiring and colors, so, state country.;
last , page 196, FSM radio page
there are 3 fuses for the radio, which one blows>?
fuse 23,32,39?
unplug the radio, does this stop blowing fuses?
if radio is not stock, say so.. still have that classic Cassette?

91 is a transition year, big changes,
the early car is quite different.
on the early , the radio fuse is fuse 12. (15amp)
and runs a vast number of things.
interior lamps
cig light, (remove it)
and ICU.
any can short. finding it can be harder on early hondas.
i use an ampclamp meter, to find all shorts. ever seen one?

now power windows, in early 91 its use a different fuse
fuse 20/21.

on later car. 91+
windows is fuse 14,36 and 39
do you have and FSM?
do you know how to read schematics?
if not, then all you can do is unplug things, and pray you find it.
or ask any ASE mechanic to find it. all can. easy.
we use and ammeter.
we have a test fuse that wires in and ammeter, to monitor current.
we then bang the radio and harness, parked, in shop and find who is shorting,
in cars, the one thing to learn, is usually 1 fuse runs many things.
to see that, open the FSM and turn to the Distribution page.

I pushed in my cigarette lighter on my 2000 Acura RL and both my lighter and radio stopped playing. What happened?

Sounds like you blew a fuse. The fuse for the radio and ACC which I believe would be the lighters as well is located in the interior fuse panel (see picture of location below) and will be the fuse in the number 4 position (see 2nd picture below of diagram of layout). Now I hope you have the security code for the radio that should have come with the vehicle because you will need to enter it in order to get the radio to work again as it will be locked until you do. On Honda/Acura if you begin to enter the code and you start to enter it wrong continue with a code anyhow because you can't go back. You have 3 trys. If you mess up 3 trys in a row, the radio will be locked for 1 hour and then you can try it again. I hope this helps and good luck.

I am going to explain something rather weird and some people will even say what's the difference. In your case it would be all thwe difference in the world. A "short" in a car will cause fuses to blow. An intermittent open in a car will cause things to operate only when they gt power. You have an open. There are more things wrong with the car you just haven't noticed them. The accessory position on your key feeds several spots on your fuse panel and in some cases is even split to feed multiple spots on the fuse panel. Take a piece of wire and run it from your battery positive to your radion fuse on the radio side. Pull the radion fuse, turn on the key, and check which side of the fuse socket has power. The one that doesn't is the radio side. Pu the wire there. radio should start working now. Cut this wire. The next time your radio dies, tie this wire together to see if the radio comes back on. Start there.

The anti theft security feature on the radio was triggered when the battery power was lost. If you have your owners manual, it will have instructions on how to get the security code to unlock the radio. Otherwise, you may have to contact a dealer for help.

Radio does not turn on - red security light sometimes flashes

I had the same problem, the main plug in the back of the radio does not seat correctly, you have to buy the radio removal tools which are four "keys" you pop into the four corner slots of the radio, pull out the radio, unclip the main wire plug and re-clip it in... it'll work fine, however, its happened to me about 3 times in the 6 years I've owned the car, so keep those keys handy. Oh, and don't believe any dealer that'll tell you different, my dealer told me I needed a new $500 radio, and the radio removal tools were like $300.... I got them for like $20 on ebay.
