Question about Geo Prizm

I can't find the tranny dipstick and everyone that has looked can't either, where is it?

GM has (in ultimate stupidity in my opinion) eliminated the normal dipstick and now uses a fill plug and level plug usually on the right side axle extension of the transmission. One of the numerous reasons that though I used to be a "chevy guy", I wouldn't own one on a bet.

You have not said what make and model you have.

lots of cars now do not have dipsticks on the tranny.
levels are checked automatically and the engine management system will tell you if there is a problem with the level.
there may also be a fill/level plug on the side of the tranny itself.

How do you check transmission level on 2010 dodge caravan

with your year of vehicle they come with a cold reading and a warm reading level. make sure your on flatish ground. Pull the dip stick and it the engine hasn't been running look for the cool or cold reading level line. if it's up to the line your good. if it's below the line you will need to add a little more fluid until you reach the fill line

hi
your automatic transmission may be extremely low on fluid. check the automatic transmission fluid. go get three quarts at auto parts store type dextron II or equivalent.. make sure you get the right type. open the hood, start looking for the transmission fluid dipstick that it shows in the owners manual. if not it may be listed on the dipstick in the engine compartment. start the car set parking brake and check the dipstick with the car running. pull the dipstick out and wipe it off , replace, take it back out and look at the end of the dipstick. there should be fluid on the dipstick and it should be in between or right at the top line. the tranny fluid goes right in that dipstick hole you pulled the dipstick out of it takes a special funnel, theyre usually red, you can pick that up at the auto parts store too, tell them you need a funnel that will fill up the tranny fluid with a tiny end. theyll know. If theres no fluid showing on the dipstick you can safely add one quart of fluid and then let it run a minute and check fluid again. now fill in smaller increments at a time (1/2 cup) untill the fluid shows in between the lines on the dipstick. put a piece of cardboard under the engine overnight to see if its leaking and where. it may need a new gasket or the tranny cooler lines are leaking, study whats loose on the lines or get a haynes or chilton manual and put a new tranny pan gasket on it. its not too hard , just takes time and patience. if theres tranny fluid already in the car I suggest taking it in to be put on a computer for further diagnosis, but this may get you going.
good luck

Transmission high temperature warning indicator on dash panel comes on...what should I look for?

a new car................no . when that happens, if you can pull the transmission dipstick , look for a red / pink color on the dipstick. make sure you have enough tranny fluid. also Smell the dipstick. does the fluid look grey or black and smell burned ? if so go see a transmission specialist . if not , it could be caused from a short , broken sensor on the tranny or a bad sensor.
also , it can be because your being too rough on your car. if your not hotrodding your car, check the fluid color n smell.

Unscrew it to the left a little then try to pull out. Don't be rough with it you don't want to break it. See if the dipstick has a tab that flips and releases it.

It should take a dextron 3 tranny fluid. But refer to the owners manual to make sure. Also, your tranny dipstick is, is where you will add fluid. Look at the bottom of the dipstick. Sometimes the fluid type is labeled there also..

I have heard this a lot lately, It seems that a Few Manufacturers have chosen to Not install a Dipstick for the Tranny. They want you to come in to the Dealership for Service. I know it Sucks!

How do i check tranny fluid?

There is no dipstick or way for the owner to check tranny fluid. It has to be brought to dealer and left overnight. They have to plug it in under a specific set of conditions to check fluid. Expect to pay about 40 dollars a liter for tranny fluid. I just had this done about 2 weeks ago

Manual transmission, but a short red tipped dipstick, looks like tranny fluid?

I have a 1998 saturn with a manual transmission and it took me quite some time to locate the dip stick. it is located on top of the gearbox close to the brake resevoir where the linkeage connects. it has a red plastic clip on top of the dip stick and submerges verticaly into the gearbox and is about six inches long. the red clip can easliy be hidden with black dirt and not seen. do not confuse this with the clutch reservoir fluid located to the right of the brake master cylnder. good luck.
