Yes, but it does not work as well as r12. Since r12 is nearly impossible to find and if you do it will cost you a ton of $, you can get a change over kit. Kits contain adapter valves and usually the proper oil to use in the compressor. Unless you are very lucky, even if the system never leaked before, expect to re-fill it every year as the 134 finds it's way out of systems faster than r12 ever did. System still needs to be evacuated before adding.

What else other than compressor must be changed on 561 to use r134 instead of r12

On most conversions, the compressor and the receiver/drier must be changed. There are also adapters for the low and high side connectors that are installed as they are different for the R134 from the R12. On a rare few the orifice tube or expansion block may also be recommended.

Your Jeep may have been built using R12 freon. R134 was first used around 1994.
If it is R12 the fittings won't work on your R134 recharge kit. Otherwise, you connect the hose fitting to the fitting that is on the low side line. The high side fitting will be too big or too small. Sometimes the low side fitting is on the compressor, sometimes it is in one of the lines.

A/C Compressor Compatible with r134a?

Yes, you can buy a small kit with the adapter fittings and use R134. You can not add R134 if the system has R12 in it now.

Freon for 1990 oldsmobile 98

This car uses R12, it is no longer available, you must convert it to R134, this requires the compressor and reciever dryer be replaced and the system flushed out and the new PAG R134 refrigerant oil be added and new charging port kits installed. Is that car worth this effort?

i think you may need some gas thats all ,now if this is a 1976 then its using R12 gas which is now not available for sale anymore so a R134 conversion kit needs to obtained and regassed by a professional with a machine,But be warned the R134 gas has different properties to the old R12 gas and as such will not be as cold as the original gas but the system will work and should drop to around 15c compared to 7c with the older gas

What type of refrigerant does a 1990 Ford Ranger use?

there are only two types of refrigerant (or normally called as freon): R12 and R134. R12 is designed for car model 2000 and below. though, some old car compressors can accomodate R134 provided that you change your auxillary fan (fan for your aircon condenser) since R134 is hotter than R12. Ask an aircon technician if your compressor can be charged with R134.

Most of the countries now ban the use of R12 since it is more harmful to our ozone.

Have a 1986 F-350 A/C puts out cool air but not cold. Don't know if system is R12 or 134A. Compressor is centr and has 2 threaded black caps with schrader valves for gage connection plus 1 quick disconnect...

in 1986 it is r12 but you can convert to r134 which is a ton cheaper than paying for r12 you need a license to buy r12 r134 is right on the shelf at auto zone they also sell retro fit kits with everything you need to convert your system and they work very well
