Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep grand Limited V8 - my truck runs great when I drive it regularly, starts on the first crank. But when it sits it drains the battery and will not start without a jump start. I have had the alternater checked and it is good also have a new battery. The alarm seems to be draining the vehicles power since it will automaticly arm itself and sometimes go off for no reason. I have tried not to use it but as indicaded it alarms itself. I wanted to disconect the alarm system but I am unable to find a fuse or relay in my manual or hanes manual. Is there some thing else I can do. For now I have been disconecting the battery when I know I will not be using it for a day or so. And thats a pain in the ****.

Cheap solution- go to a RV store- buy battery isolator (switch for battery), or bite the bullet and have a mechanic hunt for your short

Not sure I follow you. Nothing should be on at night with the key switch off.
If something is on or there is a short in the system, the battery will drain overnight.
And have you had the charging system checked on the truck ?
It should be charging 13.8 volts or more with the engine running.

I have a '93 jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 v8.

Disconnecting your battery, as you must've done when changing the starter, will cause the ecu to revert to factory settings and the computer will have to relearn the proper idle for your jeep.

My 1999 jeep will stop running while driving it

Hi, i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee, 4.0 litre, had the same problem, quits running out of the blue, driving down the road, or sitting idling. starts right back up or takes some cranking to get it running. found out that the crankshaft position sensor was going bad, cost 40$ for the part, but had to have mechinac replace it due to it's location, hard to get at. jeep runs great now.

Sounds like the nuetral safty switch is starting to go bad. the switch makes sure that the car is in park or neutral before it will alow the engine to crank over.

If my 2005 jeep sits and i do not drive it everyday, it will not start the next day. Had the battery changed a year ago.

You can tell if the battery is weak while it is cranking. If that is the case then battery need to recharged. When a car is not running regularly, it doesn't have the charge from the alternator so it becomes weak. If there is no sign of weakness in cranking then the problem is not from the battery, but it is from lacking of two basic things: ignition and / or fuel. Need to find out what is the root cause. Good luck.

After i start my 95 jeep grand cherokee limited

crank or camshaft sensor will cause this, a bad crank sensor will cause it not to start or start hard. it controls timing and sends info to pcm for proper fuel mixture and spark at the right time.
