Question about Ford Windstar

I have 2001 Ford Windstar w/ 3.8L. I had vehicle diagnosed when eng. light came on. It was e.g.r. valve, bad 1&3 cylinder, & mass air flow. It was running and driving pretty rough, and going thru twice as much gas. I did a full tune-up. Plugs, wires, air & oil filter, flushed radiator, the whole 9 yrds. I had it diagnosed again and said bad o2 sensor. So I bought 1. In the process of trying to get it put in, I noticed the connectors were fried down to nothing but wires w/ corrosion built up. Well I had new o2 sensor put in anyways w/out plugging it up, due to not having the other connector. I bought the connector (pig tail) from dealership for $30. Well van is idled at a store pretty far down the road and have no access to getting to it right now. I have pigtail w/ me here at home. Well after new o2 sensor got put in, power was re-installed and drove and ran like it should. It lasted a whole 5 minutes. Lost horsepower. 5000 rpms and going 5 mphs. Got a ride home so van is idled. Ok, a guy told me even though connector not plugged in, there should still be horsepower and I say that's not true.What do you think. I have put in a lot of hard work on that van and a lot of money. It's our only ride and out of ideas. I need 2nd and 3rd opinions because here no one really knows. Also before power was lost O/D light was flashing that's why I say connector not connected. Also when splicing wires on new pigtail how do I determine exactly what goes to what wire. New pigtail wires are all white. Any ideas would be thoroughly thought and appreciated.

1- o/d light is transmission issue- if miles in excess of 135000- change fluid and filter and cross fingers- known issue with windstars
2 unsure of wiring for 02 sensor - sorry
3 - windstars have a leakage problem at intake that throws lots of codes dealing with injectors/o2- dealer kit to replace o-rings,gaskets,bolts and valve cover to correct
4- lots of revs with no go - either tranmission issue-see 1 or catalydic converter melted/plugged

I have p 1121 and a P 0401 codes on my 1998 ford windstar. are these related? what can I check? replaced the mass airflow sensor recently.




P1121 Ford Throttle Position Sensor Inconsistent with Mass Air Flow Sensor

Are there any cracks in the rubber hose from air cleaner to throttle body ! That could cause the P1121 air entering after mass air flow sensor !
P1121 - Throttle Position (TP) Sensor Inconsistent with MAF Sensor The PCM monitors a vehicle operation rationality check by comparing sensed throttle position to mass air flow readings. If during key ON engine running self-test the comparison of the TP sensor and MAF sensor readings are not consistent with calibrated load values, the test fails and a diagnostic trouble code is stored in continuous memory.
  • Air leak between MAF sensor and throttle body
  • TP sensor not seated properly
  • Damaged TP sensor
  • Damaged MAF sensor
Drive vehicle and exercise throttle and TP sensor in all gears. A TP PID (TP V PID) less than 4.82 % (0.24 volt) with a LOAD PID greater than 55% or a TP V PID greater than 49.05% (2.44 volts) with a LOAD PID less than 30% indicates a hard fault. P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the DPF EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum.

Perform KOER self-test and look for DTC P1408 as an indication of a hard fault. If P1408 is not present, look for contamination, restrictions, leaks, and intermittents

Oil in maf sensor


POSIBLE CAUSES:
Over filled crankcase.
Excessive engine blow by caused by worn rings or a scored cylinder wall.
Plugged PCV positive crankcase ventilation system valve or collapsed hose.

Vehicle running rough initial code misfire cyl 2 replaced plugs and coil pack still rough recheck codes and got P0172/P11341/P1151 O2 or mass air flow sensor ?


May be fuel injector on Number two cylinder, normally if it's the mass air flow it would affect all cylinders. You may have a sticking EGR valve or a PUrge canister valve stuck open, if you need to know how to check this let me know and I will give you more instructions. I also need to know if it's the 4 or 6 cylinder engine and if it has a automatic or standard shift I need this to help diagnose the problem more. The other codes is for the 02 sensor but you need to check the other stuff first before you mess with the 02 sensor. Thanks for using fixya

Ford Ranger check engine light. I had it diagnosed as an EGR Valve, replaced it and the light cam back on after about 5 miles.


They all say the EGR valve is the problem but most of the time its the mass air fow meter is at fault.So i would recomend changing that.

I have a ford windstar 2001 lx there are four code's i need info


#1 is the egr position sensor #4 Is for single cylinder misfire so this could be the coil or a bad plug or wire ..but with fords should check for a vacume leak that can cause a misfire to .....#2#3 are 02 sensors before i would change them i would check the mass air flow sensor ..Hope this helps

Windstar van stalls while driving
