Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Montero

Hi i have a 2002 pajero sport 114000 miles sometimes when driving the engine light comes and it looses power,its still driveable and only smokey if i floor it,any suggestions thanks

Sounds like one of the injectors are defective by being stuck open and leaking large amounts of fuel into the engine cylinder(s).I've also in some cases experienced the fuel pressure regulator that has got a hole in the diaphragm and pulls fuel though the vacuum line or vacuum source.Thank you for your questions

Is your check engine light "ON" when the engine is running .

Have you checked for malfunction codes .

Can to high of octane cause the check engine light to come on? I just bought a 2001 VW Golf and when I filled it up I put 91 octane in it then the engine light came on. Ive tryed the gas cap but light...


Wrong octane could very well cause the check light to come on as well as a million other reasons. But make sure the fuel cap is on tight sometimes that can trigger a code. If you still have the light on after 50 miles I would have the OBDII system read to get the codes of why the check engine light is on. Elevation should have no effect.

it may just need a sensor does it have trouble with driveability take it to a shop for analysis dont let them take it apart or nothing like that but have it checked out with a computer
