  • Well to do it on your own no. It is time consuming. You will need a Harmonic Balancer puller to pull it off and put it on. You did not list the make or model of Ford you own but in general once you get to the water pump its all downhill from there. Should cost you less than $100usd to do it on your own. You can rent a Balancer puller for far cheaper than you can purchase one.
  • If you have to pay a shop to do this job then it can cost a bit because it is a bit on the time consuming side. Cost for a shop is a few hundred usd.
  • One thing is for sure, if it doing what you say it needs repaired real soon.

Regards, Tony

Check my timing on cam, distributor all OK and Piston 1 is up. The only thing I picked up is that my timing mark on the pully is t the bottom. Please help

It is possible that the outer ring of your crankshaft pulley(harmonic balancer) has spun out of place from the center section. Commonly, the rubber that joins the two parts wears out and allows the two pieces to slowly move independently from each other. The other factor is the key way that connects the crank pulley to the crankshaft may have sheared. I would pull the crank pulley( harmonic balancer) off and check both the keyway and the inner/outer orientation of the balancer.

Sorry no idea iam in spain and never see this make of car ,undo the big nut in the middle is what i would do first ,also drill a hole in the bellhousing inline with the ring gear 8.5mm then a 10mm tap and bolt with a point ground on the end and lock up the engine before you undo it as modern engines do not have a woodruff key to hold the pulley in place and if you undo the pulley bolt you allow the timing belt to move ---expensive valve repair

I can't say for sure but it could be the tensioner pully. I don't think you should be able to move it side to side. That would indicate that the bearing is worn.

It sounds like the harmonic balancer came apart. This is a two part pulley seperated by a rubber gasket. The part itself is much less expensive at auto parts stores than the dealership but you may need to wait a few days for it to arrive as most stores won't have the part in stock. A picture of the harmonic balancer is below:
