Question about Mercedes-Benz E320

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Mercedes E320 with random electrical / electronic issues. The malfuntions occour in groups. This group malfunctions most frequently and at the same time: Driver's side seat, window, and mirror. Next functions to quit are: Passenger side seat, window and mirror. Next and least frequent functions to quit are: Power locks, front interior lights, power sunroof, and radio (power-amp only). I can temporarily restore all functions by briefly disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, or by removing and replacing the fuses that affect the non-working components. There is not a regular pattern as to when or why the outages occur. Please help! Dave Francis dtfrancis@comcast.net

Probably a short in wiring. Vibration are causing contact to go on and off, check circuit and connectors with a tester.

Check what fuses are blowing, do it with a tester. If the contact is
random it is difficult to find it out when happens, a way to diagnose
the problem is disconnecting the affected devices one by one and going
for exclusion in troubleshooting the error:

Start unplugging Driver's side seat, window, and mirror connectors and see if you have the rest of troubles again.

1998 Mercedes Electrical / Electronic Issues

Hi,

From all indications, most of your devices are controlled by a common module. This would be similar to the engine management computer but has the responsibility for all those mentioned and then some. if you would notice, most if not all are non essential to the engine's performance. Initial suspect would be such a module and/or the sensors, connectors to it. Being such as multi input and multi output, it is perhaps to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional. If you are considering a DIY (do-it-yourself), then access to a full service manual would make things doable if not easier.

Often this control module would be under the dash or on any of the kick panels.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Malfunction electrical consumers switched off in E320?

it is likely the large battery in the boot that has weakened, if after driving car for some time when you restart the message disappears.

if they are self locking, there is a TSB at our site. However, it is likely one of the door lock actuators ($125) malfunctioning. usually the driver door. but try the TSB stuff first.

Diagram location knock sensor quest 1998,I don't find the knock sensor on the nissan quest 1998

it is buried under the intake manifold. But ignore the knock sensor code, it means absolutely nothing. It will not resolve any issue you have. The KS code is usually the result of a broken engine mount.

go here if you have any issues.
