I have a 2002 Mitsubishi galant with the 3.0 v6 motor and I need to replace the camshaft positioning sensor. Is it all one piece with the distributor or is it separate from the distributor?

go on line type in camshaft position sensor and open up the utube film of where it is and how to do it. Normally position sensors are not near the distributor as they have a specific setting and read the cam position to adjust the variable valve solenoid .

Changing a speed sensor on a 1998 mitsubishi galant

HI there:
On 1998 Mitsubishi Galant 2.4L MFI SOHC 4cyl the Vehicle Speed Sensor is located mounted on transmission, near the shift linkage.

You will need unplug the sensor by pulling the tangs on either side of the plug away from the connector, then pull the connector off the plug, unbolt the speed sensor, and finally install the new sensor and tighten the bolt firmly.

End this job plug in the sensor, ensuring that the connector snaps into place.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

My service engine soon light came on and the error code was p0340, what is it?

Autozone will read the code and give you a print out of the definition for free.

Or you can google p0340 maybe add galant and you will find out what is is.... (camshaft position sensor)

2002 Mits Galant has a hard time to start

Your P0340 is a different problem from your P0303, but they may be related.

Since the code P0340 indicates that there is something wrong with your cam speed sensor, your misfiring in cyl3 may be caused by this.

This points to addressing the P0340 error before the P0303 since it could be contributing to the 303 in the first place. Look at your cam speed sensor in cyl3 and maybe this would solve both problems at once.

Hope this helps.
