Question about 2003 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar with electrical problems. When you start the van the gauges go to the max then return to the bottom setting,at the same time the radio and blower motor start but shut off within 20-25 seconds of running. There are no signals and no headlights at this time either. After about 5-10 minutes of driving everything starts working fine but if you shut it off the whole process starts all over. The battery charge light is on on the dash cluster as well, but the van has a brand new alternator and this has been replaced by me twice and a garage once. The charging at the battery is 14.5 and 14.5 at the junction box on the left fender.I was told Ford had some kind of in dash regulator or capacitor under the dash.Any info would be greatl.Grant.

There is no regulator or capacitor. it is all controlled by the pcm, needs to be programmed by ford diagnostic equipment upon replacement

Stay out of the Burmuda triangle. :) (It's getting late 5:AM) check for a bad ground on the instrument cluster in the dash. Good luck. Jeff M.

I would say you will have to take the cluster apart after you take it out of the van.

Very common on this make and model trans, pump drive splines inside torque converter strip out and pump is not turning, Most times there is no damage to pump shaft. Remove trans and remove torque converter, inspect the splines at the very bottom of the hub hole. If stripped out inspected pump shaft splines which are the smaller center splines coming out of trans, if ok replace torque converter and re-install trans, change out fluid, clean any metal from magnet and replace filter, fill with fluid and verify proper operation.

I have a 1995 ford windstar that seems to have a temp. problem. While driving the temp. gauge goes all the way to HOT. The van never overheats but the A/C will eventually start blowing warm air. I flushed...

oddly enough it sounds like a transmission problem, get a transmission shop to assess the problem, but first try replacing the thermostat. be sure to turn on the heater when adding antifreeze. I have had this problem with my windstar.

I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. While driving the other day I lost all electrical power. Nothing would work and engine cut off. After sitting for a brief time the van cranked back up and I drove it home. ...

Most probably...a loose electrical connection. Since you mentioned that the electrical power and the engine got cut off and after sitting for a brief of time, the van cranked back up. You need to check the wiring to see if there's any loose connection.

Here, I provided you the link where you can download the wiring diagram for your 2000 Ford Windstar:

This diagram (manual) will help you trace the problem.

Have a great day!

Electrical Problem?

For some reason you lost power. Start at the battery, checking connections, check connections on the engine block(grounds), connections at the starter. What is the repair history on the van? Is this problem intermittent? A faulty ignition switch could cause your problem.

Ford windstar van, 2003

I had a small plastic piece replaced in the transmission and it solved the problem(2007). My car was still under warranty, so it only cost me about $100.00. The actual cost was closer to $900.00 because of the labor involved. I used the Ford Dealer in Schulenburg, Texas. They would know exactly what you are talking about, if you ask them.
